I have burnt my mouth so badly I can't taste anything

Idiot me took a large mouthful of boiling hot fruit tea, took a second to realise what I had done and spit it out. The pain! Now I have a mouthful of blisters and no sense of taste except at the very back of my tongue.

It's an interesting (but not recommended) way to kick start a diet as I have no desire to eat anything. Has anyone had similar and how long does it take to be able to taste again?

Oh no that sounds sore. Can you take some ibuprofen and try to eat ice cream/lollies? It will probably be sore for a few days

That sounds very much like you need medical attention OP.

I have been there. It's such a horrible feeling. Couldn't talk, couldn't eat. You're right! It sure is a painful way to kickstart a diet - I lost 2lbs in 2 days because I couldn't even move my tongue it kept burning so bad.

Swish cold water or milk. Eat cold plain yogurt.
Avoid citrusy, spicy food or anything that has sugar.
Avoid using straw.

Hope you start to feel better in 2 days.

Ouch @Saranegsie I'm not that bad. The pain went after about 5-6 hours and now I'm just uncomfortable,

The chance of seeing a GP is approximately zero! I'm avoiding hot food/drink and certain ingredients, hoping my taste comes back soon. Dr Google suggests 2 weeks...

If you have blisters you need to seek medical attention immediately. Either go to the Pharmacy to get checked or to your local AE. Good luck

I agree about seeing someone. I read a story similar to this before and a blister burst and she ended up with a bad infection

Good to know you're feeling better

Please call 111 for advice as a minimum. A burn so bad you have blisters in your mouth and have lost your taste is likely to need medical attention.

I had to collect a prescription today and asked the pharmacist - they confirmed that apart from avoiding hot foods, spicy and spiky stuff, it's just time. I should revisit if still a problem after a week or two. I can feel improvement today, I have taste returning to parts of my tongue and I almost enjoyed my iced coffee this morning!

Thanks everyone for your concern.
