Unexciting car insurance question

Gnomegarden32 · 18/06/2024 19:54

I'm sorting out car insurance for a new car - prices are much better if I can wait 3 weeks for the insurance to start. Can I just leave my car undriven on the street for that time before the insurance kicks in? Thanks

Google says yes you need to insure it, unless it is off the road and declared SORN.

No, you need to park it on your own private land if it's uninsured.

Ah ok, thank you!

Do you already own the car? Why is it cheaper to buy it in 3 weeks time? Generally, its cheaper the earlier you buy. I'm not sure about a brand new car, but for general renewal, its much cheaper to buy it 28days before the renewal is due, and goes up each day as that deadline gets closer. Also, check the cost of comprehensive. Strangely, this can sometimes be cheaper than just fire/theft.

To answer your question about sitting the car outside. If it was on your own land in say a garage then fine (as far as I know) but can't be left on a public street
