Bomerang smell advert

Is it just me who finds the advert that talks about a 'bomerang smell" quite annoying!?
I really don't think there is such a thing - and whoever created this advert has simply made this up!

What's a bomerang?

RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue · 18/06/2024 17:50

Eh?

Singleandproud · 18/06/2024 17:52

I thought that, I mean the phenomenon of the smell coming out when you iron is true, particularly on shirts, I used Dettol antibac laundry stuff to get rid. BUT, the entire advert is like someone trying to get a new phrase off the ground and make it 'cool' and it's just cringey.

However - it has got us talking about it, and I also moaned about it in a similar way when it came on at my parents the other day so maybe it's doing it's job. Any publicity is good publicity.

@RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue @longdistanceclaraclara

It's a detergent advert to get rid of smells that seems to be gone when you do the washing, only to reappear (boomerang - see what they did there 🤨) when you iron them. Largely I dare say as we all wash on 30 now.

You don't know what a boomerang is? Or are you pretending not to know because of a spelling error?

I genuinely didn't know the OP meant that either. I mean why would a BOOMERANG smell? Confused What advert is she even on about?!

BumHairDontCare · 18/06/2024 18:00

I have know idea what the as is but I'm guessing a boomerang smell would be a smell that keeps coming back.

I love the little old lady in the background. She’s probably 35 in a white wig and a cardi but her facial expressions are hilarious!

RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue · 18/06/2024 18:10

Oh I have never seen that ad! Sorry @SWsmileyface and please don't say sorry for your spelling error. Apologies if I am one of the ones who made you feel you had to. Flowers I genuinely didn't realise what you meant, even though it's clear now. (I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed!!!) 😆

SWsmileyface · 18/06/2024 18:16

No worries - no need to apologise xx
If you hadn't seen the ad I guess the whole idea of a boomerang smelling would be a bit perplexing!!!

An explosive boomerang would be a bomberang.

@BumHairDontCare no, no idea on a a bomerang smell, or a boomerang smell for that matter. No idea what it was getting at, nothing to do with spelling.

I was confused because you asked what a 'bomerang' was, not what a 'bomerang smell' was and I thought it was obvious that she meant boomerang. Never mind anyway, OP clarified and I won't derail the thread.

SWsmileyface · 19/06/2024 07:29

Hi all.
I think next time I'll be clearer in my opening post so I don't confuse everyone!!

Boomerang smell is definitely a thing in this house - especially with dh's work uniforms and workout gear - becoming more so with dc sports gear. I've used laundry cleanser with the detergent for ages. Bio detergent is also better for getting rid of it - as long as it doesn't trigger skin sensitivities. Strangely, dd's eczema has always been better when using bio detergent - the hv suggested maybe because things are cleaned more thoroughly when using it?

boombang · 19/06/2024 08:06

It is a pathetic gimmicky advertisers invention word for not having cleaned clothes thoroughly. It makes me very certain I don't want to buy that product

Bradleytmd · 23/06/2024 21:04

I’m so glad you mentioned this. It’s dreadful and exploits consumers. Boomerang smells are insufficiently washed clothes likely washed at too low a temperature, therefore not killing bacteria that make the smells. Cynical marketing

Topseyt123 · 23/06/2024 21:10

I think it's one of the stupidest and most annoying adverts on TV. There are a few of them at the moment, all to do with laundry detergent.

boredm · 23/06/2024 21:13

Yeah they made it up they mean something isn't clean properly

AngryPrincess · 23/06/2024 22:40

I hate that advert.
