Things that choke you up

omgrightnow · 18/06/2024 14:58

I choke up when I see an ambulance pass by and the traffic moves, letting it pass.

Something about humans recognising for a second that they have to stop and help for the greater good.

Many things, but a big one each year is standing in a football stadium amid 20,000 silent people to commemorate Remembrance day. Gets me every time.

Also, seeing clips of anything like The Voice, BGT or sports things where you see families so proud of their children. It makes me tearily happy for them, but a regular reminder that I never get that from my family.

@Ratfinkstinkypink my best wishes to you 💐

BeReet · 18/06/2024 16:38

@Ratfinkstinkypink so sorry for your loss.

For me it's collective singing - national anthems at sporting events, crowds at Glasto etc. The sound of all those voices does me in every time.

I also have the same as the OP with regard to ambulances and traffic parting to let them through. A small piece of humanity in the vicious dog-eat-dog of commuting.

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/06/2024 16:39

Many things. Most recently Dave Grohl struggling to sing 'Under You' at the Foo Fighters gig on Saturday, as he was so emotional (first song released after Taylor Hawkins died) and thanking the crowd for supporting and filling in the words.

Just so emotional - wiping his tears. I don't think there were many dry eyes in the 50,000 crowd!

BeRealOrca · 18/06/2024 16:47

Pets, specially dogs, greeting owners after a long period away always gets a tear in my eye.

x2boys · 18/06/2024 16:51

When my sons school sends me videos of
the kids singing or performing ,he's severely autistic and goes to a special school for children with severe and profound learning disabilities
They did a video of the kids kicking footballs down the corridor and singing it's coming home during the last European Cup, that choked me a bit 🤣

spiderlight · 18/06/2024 16:58

Old dogs. Especially old dogs being walked by old owners.

My husband's tie, hanging on the newel post of the bannisters. He hung it there on the night of our wedding and it has been there ever since. He died 9 months after we married, I can't bring myself to move it.

Now I'm crying. I'm so sorry 😞

Taylor Swift giving the 22 hat to some delighted child at the Eras Tour 😁. Melts my cold heart.

That is humbling ❤️

Flash mobs.
Parades with marching bands.
Firework displays.
Kids singing Christmas Carols.
Happy endings in films.
I'm a giant soppy mare.

All of these!
Also, any kind of convoy, whether it’s vintage cars, motorbikes, army vehicles…
And Mexican Waves!! Totes emosh 😁

Oh goodness @Ratfinkstinkypink I'm so sorry for your loss. That has made me cry too. I'm so sorry - that's very poignant

Oh yes. Every time

LightSpeeds · 18/06/2024 17:27

Really young children eating (usually with their mouths open). I don't know why it makes me teary...

TheresMillionsSaidGeoffrey · 18/06/2024 17:49

The meat and dairy industry. Our ability to shrug off their suffering and laugh at those that defend them hurts my heart.

LividPink · 18/06/2024 17:58

The first line of "Wherever you go my love will find you":

"I wanted you more than you EVER will know."

One day I will be able to explain how hard I fought to have my baby. The losses, the nearly dying, the financial ruin. I've told him there were other babies that tried to come from my tummy but didn't make it. He's pre-school now. Maybe one day he'll understand why I cry every time at that first line.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 18/06/2024 17:59

Not a huge amount, soppy films at Christmas I guess.

The one thing which really got to me, was driving with my DM last year on a weekday locally and a horse drawn funeral carriage came up and to the cemetery, you could see it was either a child or teenager (photo in carriage), not sure if gang related or illness but it was a boy.

And suicides of people I know, 2 older men in my community in past year or so. My best friend ended her life about 20 years ago now and a funeral of someone who’s done this is awful, so raw. I sobbed for ages there.

The line the Native American says to Kevin Costner “you’ll always be my friend”.

HumphreyCobblers · 18/06/2024 18:13

All of this thread so far!

Plus the last line of The Toymaker by Martin Waddel -

"And she made it with love, for she had not forgotten"

HRTQueen · 18/06/2024 18:16

Sport doesn’t matter what sport but when they win and the crowd goes crazy. I cried at seeing the Romanian fans yesterday 🙄 I get upset seeing the disappointment for those that don’t win too

the London 2012 Olympics I was a mess I was in constant tears it was just wonderful London felt like the best place in the word to be

im not even a sporty person I think it’s the dedication and that it has the ability to unite us all that I find so moving

elQuintoConyo · 18/06/2024 18:19

Battle of Britain flypast. (Military father). Makes me sob.

The ever dwindling number of ww1/2 survivors who show up to memorials.

Pictures of old dogs/cats next to photos of them as puppies/kittens.

Artwork made for animals who've died (cross stitched hamsters, macrame parrots - whatever).

The sound of that oh so happy Spanish donkey who was reunited with his owner after COVID - and the owner crying too FML.

My friend's son dancing cos he's utterly fantastic!

Upthejunctionandroundthebend · 18/06/2024 18:37

Watching the march at the Cenotaph on Remembrance day. And all the people representing their relatives who've died.

The Circle of Life song (not so much when sung by Elton John). I was a mess when I watched the life production! It is such a beautiful song.
