Short flight recommendation

I’m a nervous flyer and trying to test a short flight. Can you fly to Edinburgh in the morning and return the same day? I’m avoiding looking at flights as that drives my anxiety and then I give up

Yes, you can. People do it all the time.

RampantIvy · 18/06/2024 07:39

From where?

Needanewname42 · 18/06/2024 07:39

Yes most domestic flights can be same day return.
Although given your nervous why not have an overnight so you have time to chill before the second flight?

Depending where you are flying from you could be in the airport from 7am for a 9am flight land at 10am out the airport by 10.30.
You'd probably need to be in the airport by about 6pm to get the evening return flight. 8pm flight landing about 9pm plus time to get home it makes for a very long tiring day.

Would it not be better to fly Saturday morning return Sunday night?

Yes, depending on where you’re flying from, there should be several flights both ways. You don’t have to fly with the same line either and can book separate flights.
Go for it and well done for facing down your fear. Good luck! You will be fine.

I can fly from Luton - or even Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow

i did the fearless flying course last Sunday so trying my best to build from there- I’ve been in floods of tears since then so don’t want the anxiety to win

How about Jersey ?

Shettani · 18/06/2024 08:01

@wizzler i don’t know anything about Jersey- have been to Edinburgh once so thought the familiarity might help.

Not jersey if they still fly the propellor planes!

I fly to Edinburgh and back in a day regularly op, from city or Gatwick.

I looked up a random day - week from today, so Tuesday 25th - and these would be possible flights for you from Luton to Edinburgh.

If you’re a morning person you could be out on the first flight then back in the afternoon, or stay the whole day.

Or you could have a slow start at home and get on the afternoon flight, spend a few hours in Edinburgh, back on the evening one.

They’re all coming in at around £100 with easyJet.

Luton - Edinburgh
08:20 - 09:40
13:50 - 15:05

Edinburgh - Luton
15:40 - 16:55
19:45 - 21:00

Yes I do this for work all the time, really easy short flight. I’ve often found it quiet on a term time week day with mostly business travellers.

Shettani · 28/06/2024 21:03

Thank you @RobinHood19 for kindly checking the flight times.

I have booked a flight to Scotland from Luton tomorrow morning and coming back in the evening. I’m trying not to give into the horrible anticipatory anxiety

OP posts:
RampantIvy · 28/06/2024 23:33

Good luck. Please let us know how you get on.

EddieSweety · 29/06/2024 04:13

Good luck op! You’ll be fine.

marriednotdead · 29/06/2024 05:14

You could also pop over to Belfast for a few hours. Good luck!

HcbSS · 29/06/2024 05:32

Good luck OP and good for you for trying to fight your phobia. It sounds crippling and I can hear your fear.
Do you have someone going with you?

Shettani · 29/06/2024 19:28

I couldn’t make it- the anticipatory anxiety got worse over night and I couldn’t do it. After a good cry I’m determined to try again
