I'm traveling soon, about to check now actually. Where are you? I'm In NI.

turnoutthelightss · 17/06/2024 19:33

I'm in Newcastle
All these changing rules are confusing me
We have checked in ,not travelling for two weeks yet so have time to buy clear bags if needs be

I travelled from the uk this week and liquids and electricals could all stay in your bag. They then randomly searched some bags.

cheeseonwheels · 17/06/2024 19:34

Not at Bristol airport last week

turnoutthelightss · 17/06/2024 19:34

@bumpetybumpbump do liquids have to be in one bag ? Or can I just place them in my carry on luggage bag

Flew home from UK last Monday and had to be bagged. This is supposed to be changed in June but still in place when we travelled

Ncl airport current advice

Do liquids still have to be in clear bag at airport security?
Namechangedforspooky · 17/06/2024 19:36

it depends on the scanner I think. Birmingham are using the new scanner la so bags not needed but we needed bags for the return journey from Arrecife

QuitMoaning · 17/06/2024 19:37

I travelled from Heathrow T3 a week ago and the liquid rule was exactly the same as it has been for several years however I got shouted at for taking my electronics out. I had to leave everything in my bags except for liquids.

Flying back, India security did want all electronics out and liquids.

it is very confusing.

Seeline · 17/06/2024 19:37

I think the UK airports which had new machinery installed to avoid this requirement have very recently said the machinery needs more work, and all liquids need to be back in a clear bag.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 17/06/2024 19:37

From www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restrictions/liquids

If you do take liquids in your hand luggage
If you do take liquids in your hand luggage, at most airports:

containers must hold no more than 100ml
containers must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm
contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed
the bag must not be knotted or tied at the top
you’re limited to 1 plastic bag per person
you must show the bag at the airport security point
Liquids in containers larger than 100ml generally cannot go through security even if the container is only part full. There are some exemptions.

Check with the airport before you travel.

Also check the rules at other airports you’ll be travelling through - for example on your return journey.

Exemptions - Google.

It was up to 1000 at Newcastle with no need for a plastic bag but the goverment changed the rules.

Last weekend they were opening and testing all liquid in hand luggage.

UK goverment say only 100 mls allowed at the moment regardless of type of scanners.

turnoutthelightss · 17/06/2024 19:41

@Sunnysummer24 oh really ! That's a nightmare
We are hand luggage only so all my make up etc will be in my bag

Varies by airport. Our local one no, but Heathrow is yes

Auburngal · 17/06/2024 19:44

Check with the airport you are travelling from,

My parents flew out from Brum on Sunday. There was a massive queue for security which goes outside the terminal building. My mum has assistance - unable to stand for long (ok with walking) so they didn't queue. They say turn up a MINIMUM of three hours before flight time.

Brum airport - bottles, pots, tubes, aerosols still need to be 100ml or less.
But put them loose in hand luggage, not in a bag and there's no limit to the number of 100ml or less liquids you can have. Electronics stay in the hand luggage too.

Hoping that these queues outside the terminal building don't exist by the time I fly out from there in early Oct.

nicky2512 · 17/06/2024 19:44

I travelled from Belfast international to Liverpool and back at the weekend and nothing had changed. Liquids in a clear bag and electronics out of bag.

TheFlis · 17/06/2024 19:46

I have flown from Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick in the last month and all still had the liquids rule. I believe it is no longer in place at London City and a couple of regional airports so best to check at your departure airport.

Yes , I went through Bristol this weekend
They said everything stays in your bag !
Then repeated - everything
I didn't have more than 100mls liquid though but no clear bags

Auburngal · 17/06/2024 19:53

These restrictions have been in place since Aug 2006 and still people (before the latest confusion) still didn't get it.

Why do I happen to be behind the couple try to bring through their 2l bottle of Coke, 400ml bottle of shampoo, their 300ml can of hairspray in security? Then scream at the security people claiming that they have rights. Scream at security staff and these passengers should be automatically banned from boarding your flight.

Then at Manchester, in the next security queue to me was a woman - guessing mid 20s trying to bring all her make up in a clear bag which was probably 50cmx50cm. Again she was screaming at the security staff.

I have hold luggage - part of price of the holiday and only take a lip balm in my liquids. Put my inhalers in there too as even though 2 of the 3 are powder based, I don't want the risk of getting them confiscated. Take a copy of my repeat prescriptions print out just in case.

AffIt · 17/06/2024 19:54

I fly a lot for work, so here's my latest:

Glasgow - electronics out, liquids in bag
Heathrow - all through, nothing taken out
CdG Paris - liquids out, electronics in
Dublin - as Glasgow
JFK - who knows: security roulette

I tend to try to be prepared by having liquids in a wee bag and electronics to hand, as things seem to change by the day...

Chersfrozenface · 17/06/2024 20:05

The rules had changed at some airports which had Next Generation Security Checkpoints (NGSC) operational and had scrapped the 100ml liquid rules. Then on 9th June the 100ml restrictions were reintroduced at 6 airports including Newcastle.

BBC News item here
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clmm97x3yvmo

It' s probably best to check with the airport what the situation is currently.

Edited to delete unnecessary verb

Movingon2024 · 17/06/2024 20:10

From Newcastle, yes they do.

they had the fancy new scanners installed and no need to have them in clear plastic bags/100 ml any more. Then just in the last week or so, new govt regs came in and it’s back to the 100ml rule.

just flew from there on Thursday. Big sign at entrance, signs up by the entrance to security, security guards reminding everyone etc etc.

still the best uk airport though

turnoutthelightss · 17/06/2024 20:31

So my understanding is we can have as many liquids as we like as long as they are in a bag and not over 100ml
And they don't need to be removed at security
Is this correct ?

If anyone could share what Luton airport is like for this, I'd be grateful!
