In the Uk
I know it's a 100ml rule
But do they have to be in clear bag ?

We just flew from Newcastle yesterday and it was back to the 100ml rule, no clear bag but lots of people getting full sized bottles taken off them as they didnt check, the lady infront of me had 5 carryon cases with all of them being searched after the new scanner highlighted them, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, deodorant and sun cream removed, she went nuts as they were removing them.

They give you bags at the airport if you need them

So my understanding is we can have as many liquids as we like as long as they are in a bag and not over 100ml
And they don't need to be removed at security
Is this correct ?

I think you can take no more than 1L of liquids, maximum 100mls each item unless new scanners working, which it appears they aren’t.

Just wait until you get to the airport and see what the signs there say. Have your liquids in a clear resealable bag, easily accessible, just in case.

At Manchester about 5-6 years ago my clear bag which I put my lip balm and inhalers in had a hole in it. Used a food bag of same dimensions. But it had a small white panel ok it.

Had to swap it for one without a white panel. What’s that about then?

I flew from Heathrow on Friday - still required to have the small bottles in the clear bag for hand luggage.

You need to check the rules both for the UK airport you're flying from and the airport you're returning from. Not all have changed the rules re putting them in a plastic bag so best to plan as if you will need to just in case. It's quite annoying!

No you don't, they have new scanners and can take up to 2 litres of liquid now. They don't even come out of your bag

Pls read through the thread the rules changed again last week.

What a shambles, and why am I not surprised 🙄

Best to stick to 100ml in clear bags this summer I think. As has been said, your destination airport may well still require it for your return anyway.

Auburngal · 18/06/2024 08:41

Rule of thumb if you have hold luggage. Unless you need to use the liquid between departure airport and destination (hotel, apartment, friend/family’s home) pack all liquids in hold luggage.

I flew abroad at Christmas and it depended on the security person. I was in one line and got barked at to remove shoes, all electronics out of bag etc. My kids were in another line and didn't have to take electronics out. Liquids I think were out (though I only carry liquid insulin which is in a cool bag so not out).

turnoutthelightss · 18/06/2024 09:12

Messaged Newcastle airport who said liquids don't have to be in clear bags
There's no limit to how many liquids but have to be 100ml max
Will need clear bags for return flight tho

That's security being petty 😂

That is true. Been asked to empty the bag of charging cables, plugs and power banks. Other times just left inside the HL.

Take off shoes is another one where you may be asked to take off or not. Hence why I wear slip on trainers when flying
