Is Beverley worth a trip ?

Thinking about having a few days there, probably in Autumn. Grew up in Yorkshire (although live over the other side of the Pennines now) and know the county well but have never ventured to this bit. Any opinions/recommendations would be really helpful !

Yes, I really enjoyed it when I went, gorgeous town.

Beverley is lovely! I wouldn't say it's a whole day's worth of trip, but it is a lovely little town.

Not much there but pretty

Nice base more compact than York. A day and a half lovely maybe a visit to elsewhere. We stayed at the Beverley Arms. Strolled round Beverley and had a day out elsewhere.

Thanks everyone. @BollockstoThis1 thanks for the recommendation of the hotel. We’d probably use it as a base to visit other places like you. Fancy Bempton cliffs and Flamborough, not been since I was a kid !

It's nice, quite undiscovered, Lincolnshire wolds in general are lovely, brigg has a lovely market on a Saturday, Louth is nice nearby we stay quite a lot in this area in our caravan although I think Beverley is east Yorks lol. It's all in a similar area though,

Beverley is absolutely lovely and only a short drive to Hornsea from there too.

If you're driving over the M62, take the scenic route rather than the A164 (it's probably the route the sat nav would take you anyway) & drive through North Cave & Walkington & over the Westwood - just watch out for the free roaming cows (some very happy memories of times past in Beverley) x

Thanks ! Most of my family are/were from the east riding and York. I know York and the dales like the back of my hand but Yorkshire wolds not at all. A great great aunt was housekeeper at Wassand Hall for years and I really fancy visiting there too !

Beverly is a nice compact easy to navigate place, lots of nice shops, lots of charity shops, seems to have a lot of independent places to eat, and loads of dogs! I was there on Saturday it was busy but nice, noone was rushing around it has a friendly feel.

Beverley is lovely. The (Yorkshire) Wolds are gorgeous, very undiscovered. A great place to get out for a walk. A day trip to Hull for the museums and marina, if the weather's not great. Spurn Point is really interesting.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/06/2024 21:02

I love Beverley! We have an office there which I need to visit once a month or so. I always love going there and having a lunchtime potter. Lots of independence shops, good high street shops and affluent charity shops.

WithACatLikeTread · 17/06/2024 21:05

You could pop to Hull. All the museums are free and based in the old town. Not far from the marina.

Both Hull and Beverly have very nice Ministers too.

Ifailed · 17/06/2024 21:06

It would be good for a couple of hours, but then you've seen it all. I think a few days would be far too long.

BollockstoThis1 · 17/06/2024 23:41

Flamborough was fabulous truly breathtaking.

I was disappointed with it Hull town Centre.

I wouldn't describe Beverley as "undiscovered"...the town was founded in the 7th century! It's also pretty popular with tourists (including the inevitable coach parties). Lovely quaint little town, pretty minster, lots of lovely places to visit nearby. If you do go to Hull, The Deep is well worth a visit, with or without kids. There are also some really nice country pubs near Beverley.

I adore Brigg, no one has ever heard of it.

'Undiscovere'd,& as in not very touristy, shithouse. Beverley is lovely I believe there is a Michelin star restaurant there.

grafittiartist · 18/06/2024 05:52

Wassand is lovely! Just check first- as they have slightly unusual opening times- worth checking first.

WithACatLikeTread · 18/06/2024 06:20

Hornsea is nice too.

Lulu1919 · 18/06/2024 07:04
