What changes did you make when you turned 40?

Did you use this milestone to make any positive changes or looking back do you wish you had? For some reason it feels more of a milestone compared to turning 30?!

Erm, no.

I’m not yet 40 but have ticked off a few pipe dreams :) published some writing, visited a dream continent, I’m attempting a marathon. I feel content with my life which is lovely but want to feel confident in my body’s abilities after the standard decades of self loathing and comparing myself unfavourably to starved starlets!

Got divorced!! Best thing I've ever done

CheeseWisely · 17/06/2024 15:34

Had a baby, so quite a big life change!

I’ve started setting some very firm boundaries about how I will allow myself to be treated by people, including myself. It’s a work in progress. But I’m making lots of small changes , ditching unreliable flaky friends, ditching negative self talk etc.

It had not occurred to me to make changes because I turned 40 but I did change my diet and lifestyle shortly after that birthday. I didn't think it was because I turned 40.

stclair · 17/06/2024 15:47

I had a new baby then so everything was changed

Got married.

I had a cull and got rid of the toxic people in my life.
It was wonderfully liberating.

NewName24 · 17/06/2024 15:58

No. Nothing specific because of the number of a birthday.

I mean, I can give you fair warning that, once you get into your 40s, and certainly your 50s, your metabolism changes, and if you eat the same, your weight and figure are likely to increase.

whatsoccuringnow · 17/06/2024 16:03

Finally left my abusive husband!

NiceAndMinty · 17/06/2024 16:41

I’m 40 next year & I’ve not given it much thought tbh.

I have a 4 year old & had baby no2 last year, so that’s been keeping me pretty busy!

This last few months, I’ve been working on getting fit again. I’ve lost about 7 lbs, but aiming for another stone before the year is out. It’s more of a ‘this year’ goal rather than a ‘I’m turning 40’ goal.

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 17/06/2024 16:52

Not because I turned 40, but because of the pandemic...they just happened to be at the same time.

I saw all the reports of people who were in ICU because they were basically too unfit to fight off the virus (obese like me). So I started running, doing yoga and eating properly.

Only managed to shift 3 stone, but I feel like a different person. My arsehole husband thinks I'm having a mid-life crisis because it coincided with turning 40, but my age wasn't the catalyst.

Better late than never, wish I'd made these changes in my 30s, maybe then they'd have made a bigger impact but I'm really proud of myself for making the new habits stick.

Ditched my man child dh. Divorce was through well before I was 41...
