Biden

Do you think the Democrats are going to continue with him as their candidate - is it too late for a switch on health grounds? There’s been a few videos from this weekend where it’s obvious that he’s just drifting, with people around him looking out for him to stop him wandering off. It’s very sad to see, it feels like he’s being manipulated in order for others to have the power. Is it just a way for Obama to be in charge again?

I'm very disappointed in Jill Biden.
Why does she allow her husband be embarrassed so publicly by his actions when it is clear that he has cognitive issues.
Does she want to hold on to the First Lady title so desperately.
He could not get sound advice obviously from Hunter Biden so is relying on Jill and their daughter Ashley to have his best interests at heart.

I would hope that if I had such issues my family would spare me from embarrassing gaffes in public Sad
In Joe Biden's case it's even worse. He is doing it on the world stage.

The US with its huge population can only offer us a choice of Biden or Trump to be the leader of the Free World
God help us all !

TheSixQuarks · 17/06/2024 17:18

Why is it Jill Biden's fault?!

I hope there is a way to replace him, though with whom I don't know. I think he's not strong enough to see Trump off.

deeahgwitch · 17/06/2024 17:27

It's clear Joe Biden hasn't "full capacity" so will rely on his nearest and dearest to have his best interest at heart. Clearly Hunter can't advise him, so that leaves Jill snd Ashley.

From what I’ve read, the first debate is being held very early in the campaign, next month I think, and if Biden really fluffs it they’ll replace him.

It feels cruel of everyone close to him to let this continue. And they’re up against Trump FGS, it’s fucking irresponsible to put Biden up as the best the Dems can offer.

Cookerhood · 17/06/2024 22:17

Trump is just as bad. Compare videos of him from this campaign to speeches a few years ago. There's a clear difference & obvious cognitive decline.
What on earth is happening when two confused old men are competing to be one of the most powerful people in the world?

Clearinguptheclutter · 17/06/2024 22:17

I mean clearly I’d vote for him over trump but I continue to be absolutely astonished that he is the best the whole of the USA can find to run against him.
American friends have tried to explain to me the deep rooted reasons why he is unlikely to be replaced (and they agree it’s ridiculous). I can’t pretend to understand them though.

and while it isn’t Jill’s fault, I m surprised that she apparently hadn’t put her foot down and persuaded him to bow out gracefully.

cathyandclaire · 19/06/2024 09:33

I was searching for a thread on this. I really don't want Trump to win and it seems like concerns about Biden's health could be a factor in the election.

It's looked like he has had Parkinson's for a while ( mask face, rigidity, slow movement, shuffling) and the freezing fits with that too- but anyone who mentions it is shouted down as a Trump supporter.

TheTwirlyPoos · 19/06/2024 09:37

It's utterly disgraceful that this is the choice. Both incapable old men. I honestly thought the dens would be pushing for Harris as the nominee but apparently not.

All the dems need to do is persuade Taylor swift to run... Can't see how it would be worse...

Bumblebeeinatree · 19/06/2024 09:44

I agree Trump is just as bad, he rambles and repeats himself constantly. The only redeeming feature for Biden is at least he listens to advisors, Trump thinks he knows everything about everything and takes advice from no one which is really dangerous.

TonTonMacoute · 19/06/2024 10:25

If he dropped dead they would have to find a replacement, so why not do so when he is patently ill. I assume because they are all fighting like rats in a sack over who it's going to be. This is exactly the sort of thing that puts politics into disrepute, and why increasingly people distrust politicians.

Its clear Biden is not capable of being president now, so who is actually running the US? Someone or group that no one has voted for. In which case, why have a President anyway? The cost involved means that only very wealthy people have a hope of succeeding,

The thing is the cognitive decline is less obvious with Trump because he's always ranted and talked nonsense!

Topseyt123 · 19/06/2024 10:48

I find it totally amazing (in a bad way) that out of that whole enormous country Trump and Biden are the only two candidates they can come up with.

Trump is horrendous and might yet become the first and only president to do the job from a jail cell, though he seems teflon coated so may not.

Biden is clearly declining in health, both cognitively and physically.

What a very poor choice of candidates to vote for!! I suspect that if Biden remains as the Democrat candidate then that will let the god awful Trump back in. That's the risk the Democrats are taking here. It won't be pretty.

YellowHairband · 19/06/2024 10:58

Trump is just as bad - he was bragging recently about how he aced his cognitive tests with the dr, but got the name of the dr wrong. This wasn't a random dr he'd only met once for the test, but the White House physician while he was in office, and who is now a congressman.

He's also got names on world leaders wrong, and has mixed up Obama and Biden several times over the last few months. The kind of errors republicans are all over Biden for.

It's completely bizarre that these two men are the best the parties can come up with!

Kittea · 19/06/2024 11:12

Cognitive decline included I’d still vote for Biden over Trump but it’s obvious Trump is going to win.

The gods have well and truly deserted us. I cannot imagine going through another four years of Trump!

Topseyt123 · 19/06/2024 11:29

I'd definitely vote for Biden over Trump too, but wouldn't be at all happy with it as the only choice.

I'm almost wishing that the US didn't have the two terms limit on its presidents (which I believe it introduced after the Second World War?). I'd have loved to see Obama standing for a third or even fourth term and think that would have been far preferable to the current situation.

Triestre · 19/06/2024 13:24

Elderly abuse and shocking. 😮 I can’t believe Obama is still supporting this cruelty. Shameful behaviour.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 19/06/2024 13:39

I'm not in the USA but if I were I would feel reticent about voting for Biden because he clearly isn't in control. What would worry me is, if Biden isn't in control and running the country then who the hell is?

GasPanic · 19/06/2024 13:54

There was a story in the DM the other day about a plot to replace him.

Senior Democrat "grandees" are supposedly thinking about it.

Maybe he will fail in the debate that is coming up. But remember he mysteriously seemed to pep up for the State of the Union address and deliver a good speech.

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/06/2024 14:44

Is anyone planning to watch the debate? It’s on at 2pm our time next Thursday but I don’t know how to watch it here.

pointythings · 19/06/2024 16:40

That EndWoke Twitter thread is batshit crazy. Find better sources, we don't need more conspiracy bollocks on mumsnet.

That's what drives me insane... out of approx 350 million people. It beggars belief that these two are the only suitable candidates.
