Ewwww... slug on lounge carpet

I usually have the lounge window locked open, so a millimetre or so open. Occasionally I have the back door open but haven't really recently as it's been so chilly. I've just got back from the weekend away and found a slug on my lounge carpet. It was a skinny one so it's possible it got in through the window but as I've been away it's been locked all weekend. I've now feeling slightly sick at the thought that it might have been hidden away for a few days and that if it was - there may be others 😱Thinking about it - last year I seem to vaguely remember seeing silvery trails on the carpet and wondering if slugs or snails were getting in but I never saw one. Has anyone else experienced this and if so - what can I do to deter them? Salt on the window sills? Grim.

They can disappear/enter through the tiniest little cracks in tiling/brickwork etc, honestly they're like magicians!

Not sure what you can do about it though unless you can locate the exact entry point.

Don't put salt everywhere. You will end up with puddles (DH learned that lesson)

It's likely they are getting in through below floor air vents. Obviously you can't completely block them off but you can reduce access with fine mesh.

Mine come in every night and have a party in my hall then eff off again. Goes through me. Every now and then I put a layer of salt across the threshold hoping they won't cross it. Actually thinking on.. think the trails have slowed down since I started doing that?
Ugh. They're so gross aren't they.

Parcels that were left outside were the culprits when this has happened to me. Did you have any Amazon parcels or something delivered to a safe place. They may have picked up passengers.

DontThinkJustDo · 17/06/2024 00:04

They are gross indeed. Outside, I have no problem with them. Inside I do. No packages so no passengers. I wonder if they are getting in through the VM cable point? I will have to investigate.

We used to have a slugs in the house problem at a previous home. They used to come in the back door which opened directly into the kitchen. And blimey they were very sneaky and you could find them in unexpected places.
We used to put a line of salt on the threshold and that generally worked although there was still an occasional one got in.
I hate slugs. Worse in the house but, as a keen gardener, can't stand them outside either.
