I've only been here 4 years and never really used the website. I've just realised you can DIRECT MESSAGE people! Do most of you use the website or the phone app?!

OP posts:

Always used app. Never been on the website

purpleme12 · 17/06/2024 01:58

Website.
Didn't like the app.
Not as user friendly

JuneIsBustinOutAllOver · 17/06/2024 02:03

Website, on tablet or desktop.

treacledan71 · 17/06/2024 02:08

Website.

CheeseWisely · 17/06/2024 03:00

App on iPhone, never had a problem with it and can filter a thread by OP's posts?

SkankingWombat · 17/06/2024 03:30

The app mainly as it is more convenient on my phone, but it is very much the poor relation of the website.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 17/06/2024 03:48

Website.

merrymelodies · 17/06/2024 03:54

Website from 2003-2012; app since then. I prefer the website but the app's easier to access on the go.

IShouldNotBeSurprised · 17/06/2024 04:04

Website. I have the Active Conversations page pinned, I open any thread I want to read in a new tab, and then go through them as I have time. It allows me to keep tabs open that are ongoing, and I close the ones I'm finished with.

PurpleWhiteGreen123 · 17/06/2024 06:13

App, on my tablet. It's rubbish, I can't do voting.

Website on my phone. Much better.

CelesteCunningham · 17/06/2024 06:28

Website on both phone and laptop.

Tried the app once, deleted it again within a day, didn't like it at all. I also use tabs to have multiple threads open which you can't do in the app.

Catsmere · 17/06/2024 07:24

Website. I never use apps if I can help it, and everything I've heard about MN's app says it's rubbish and missing half the features.

RampantIvy · 17/06/2024 07:28

Mobile website on my (Android) phone and Kindle Fire and website on my laptop.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 17/06/2024 07:36

Website

DimOGwbl · 17/06/2024 07:37

Android app. It's dreadful.

Everygrain · 17/06/2024 07:37

Website, app is rubbish.

ComingInByAnsible · 17/06/2024 07:45

The app, no problems with it. Could do with more functionality (voting, thanks) but hopefully that will be added at some point.

F0XES · 17/06/2024 07:45

I've only ever used the app. What is thanks? And also what else is better about the website?

Same. I only use mumsnet on my iphone and prefer the look and feel of the app to the website. The structure and colour contrast of the app feels cleaner, where's using the website feels quite old fashioned, such as clicking to the next page of comments on a post rather than just scrolling through. But I access all social media and news content via apps on my phone, so maybe that's why it feels that way.

I find it unusual that Mumsnet invest in website functionality but not app functionality. I'd like the app to have voting and thanks, but I can filter by the OP posts which is key for me.

littleburn · 17/06/2024 08:57

*where as, not 'where's'. Obviously the app could do with the edit function too! 😂

Have you not got access to a computer/laptop?

@Peckhaminn website. I've been here since almost the beginning of MN Apps were a thing of the future!! I looked the App but hated it. I only MN on my phone though now, I don't like using it on my iPad, it's just weird.🤣🤣

@RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue

you don't need a laptop/computer. I think it's better on my phone.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/06/2024 09:12

Part of it may be that websites, if correctly implemented, should be device/OS agnostic whereas I assume apps aren't so they take more development and testing. But it may also be that the good thing about the app, which you and I appreciate, is its 'cleanness'. Adding lots of features which are only needed a small proportion of the time might ruin that - there's a real tradeoff in UI design.

I actually think it's good to have the simple, clean, more easily readable app for most usage and then just use the website for extras. I'm rarely bother with voting and don't really get the point of Thanks.

I use the app on my phone. Don't have any problems with it.

Same here, so surprised at other comments.

AnneKipankitoo · 17/06/2024 09:22

Website on IPhone and on desktop. I deleted the app. It stopped working for me.

Bjorkdidit · 17/06/2024 09:51

Website on both laptop and phone. I also don't use apps unless forced to or if there's something wrong with the mobile browser version, but seeing as it works fine for MN, I don't know why I'd use an app?
