MacBook not update compatible

I’m looking at buying a refurbished MacBook. One of the filters is for MacBooks that aren’t compatible with the latest updates.

I’ve had a Google but can’t really find the info that I need about this.

Please can anyone tell me what this means, and how important is it when buying a laptop please?

It means that at some point in the future (usually way before anything like it happens with Microsoft), nothing bloody works.

You would need the updates as they contain security features and fixes. A MacBook that isn’t compatible is a waste of money really imo.

Apple release updates quite frequently and you would miss out on any new features. I hope you find something

Apple will release security updates but not new feature updates.
Last time I had one it was good for about another four years.

Thanks all, I’ve bought one after chatting with the tech person on the website. For the price I paid I’ll be happy to get 3-4 years out of it 😊

I've had my MacBook for years and at some point it stopped being updateable.

Still works perfectly for everything I need, bearing in mind most people only scrape the surface of what their MacBook is actually capable of.

That's the handy thing with Apple - it is so easy to contact them via online chat or phone for advice. My Macbook is 2013 and still going strong. My OS was out of date and no updates available - and I stayed with this for years with only a couple of sites not able to work with it. I took the plunge recently and installed a newer OS which my Macbook was compatible with. Amazingly, this was quite simple to do and all is well :)
