Universal credit on maternity

Hi all.

info,…we both work full time…claim no benefits currently. We have a 3 year old and a new baby due in 4 weeks…..

Hopefully someone has been in this scenario……

when my wife goes from workplace maternity pay down to statutory maternity which is around £600 a month……could we make a claim for universal credit until she goes back to work?

we have a mortgage, £900 a month, child in full time paid care, £540 after free child care allowances, I work full time and earn £32,600 a year.

I tried an online calculator which stated we could get £696 a month universal credit but just want to speak to humans!

thank you for reading.

Not sure OP, but I have heard that you can claim UC whilst on maternity so I guess if her SMP income makes her eligible, then she could?

I don't know what the criteria are so not sure if you'd meet it!

Good luck with everything & safe arrival for little one
