Voter ID after Marriage

Thinking ahead to voting next month and had a little panic over ID.

I recently got married and my passport still has my maiden name on it. I have changed my name on the electoral role but now don’t have ID to match.

Does anyone know if my passport plus marriage certificate would be an acceptable form of ID?

If necessary I’ll apply for a voter ID doc but don’t want the hassle if it’s not necessary!

i work in Polling Stations and i'm pretty sure we were told that was fine.

I've been wondering this but I've been married 7 years and have lost my marriage certificate. Not sure what I can do without buying for a new one, and I'm not sure I'd be able to do it all in time

I don't know the answer to your question OP but I had to apply for a VAC. The form took less than 5 mins (it took me longer to find my NI number that you do need!) and I received it in the post within 7 working days.

I have this but the other way round - haven't changed my name on electoral roll but passport in married name. So will marriage cert suffice?

Correct. The photo ID must be a true & accurate depiction of the voter. A name change is absolutely fine. So is a mis-spelt name.

I was told no, so applied for a voter's certificate. Stupid rule.🤣

Bring both documents, so that we can verify that your photo matches the name on the roll.

I am a Presiding Officer in a polling station.

Polling clerk here - so long as you bring both documents, you're fine. You've also still got time to re-register in the name on your passport on the electoral register.

Ok great, sounds like bring both will be fine - thanks!
