It's in a book my dad has and we're trying to figure out if it's an author signature.

Thank you!

The pen strokes from the central riser onwards are the same in both words.

They just haven't come out quite the same, and the ink has failed in the first word.

It's possible – but not certain! – they are intended to be the same letters.

It could be Anton Chekhov? Unlikely, if the book’s not by him, I suppose…

phoenix28 · 16/06/2024 19:55

I put it in ChatGPT and this is what it said

The text in the image reads: "Lyman Schooled".

Gerald Reitlinger wrote the book, with a foreword by Martian Gilbert.

I can't see how the signature can be either of those names. I assume you meant Martin Gilbert - cracking whodunnit writer! - and not a little green man. Grin

Teach me to pay attention to what I'm typing, especially in a hurry! 😂😁

Well the first name looks like Leighton to me, especially as you can see a dot for the " i " on the long downward stroke of the " L ".

The second name looks like Charloner.

noraclavicle · 16/06/2024 20:24

I think you might be looking at a book previously owned by a GP…

Microwaveexpert · 16/06/2024 20:38

I see Lillian Barlow, same as a pp

Gabbsters · 16/06/2024 20:57

The surname looks like Bhaskar.

AcrossthePond55 · 16/06/2024 20:59

First name; Leyland? Layland? Laylian? Leylian?
Last name; Charlier? Charles? Chartres?

I'd say it was a previous owner's name or could it be a location/school rather than a name?

Ginkypig · 16/06/2024 21:58

Have you looked online to see if you can find either of their signatures?

search for signed copies and there might’ve be pictures.

it might help you see if it matches.

to my eye that doesn’t look like either name though!

ThePoshUns · 16/06/2024 22:01
