I've been looking at this option for the past week or so. Found some nice villas in the canaries .. following as I'm up for suggestions. I'm hell bent we are not staying here for Christmas and having yet another awkward co-parenting one! I'm done, I'm off to find some sunshine ☺️

Evening shift...any recommendations?

Nile cruise. They don't celebrate Christmas so you can really get away from it and the sights are fantastic.

Whenever we’ve been away at Christmas it’s been to somewhere snowy to go skiing. Not what you’ve asked for I know but it would keep your teen busy! Some of the Austrian hotels in particular have amazing spas .

CornishTeaTime · 16/06/2024 21:24

No cruises and sunshine needed 🥰

Yeah I can't think of anything worse than a frigging boat full of people with a free buffet at Christmas! 🤣 I'm still looking OP this canaries villa option is looking favourable. I've been to Tenerife before at Christmas and it was actually quite warm. I've run the idea past both my teen boys and they are in favour of it. One present each, packed in a suitcase, private pool and hot tub with a splash of sunshine.

What about the Middle East? Not too much further than the canaries but a bit more dependable weather?

For a 6-9 hour flight, Oman, Dubai, Egypt, Cape Verde, Gambia, Kenya, Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua. Pushing the flight time slightly - Cuba (although not if you want to do a lot of US travel), Goa, Florida, Jamaica.

Shorter haul, I’d add in Morocco and Madeira as options.

I fancy the carribbean

No young kids here so last year for the first time we two escaped the Christmas madness for the first time. Had mixed feelings about it, but honestly I will never spend Christmas at home again unless I am unable due to ill health or something.

We had a "mini Christmas soiree" around 8th December. No fuss, just a gathering with party food and booze. Great afternoon.

We went to Estepona in Southern Spain. A family member owns a place there and it was available (and free of charge!) so we gladly accepted the offer. We did pay for cleaning, and utilities and left a handsome pressie too. We are not tight.

Folks, it was great. Weather was in the 20s and sunny, however that was probably luck as its' not guaranteed. Christmas Day is not celebrated in Spain except by ex pats so we escaped all the trees, Santas, silly hats and forced fun and it was fab. The buses and public transport were running and restaurants were all open as were supermarkets. Just another day. Wonderful.

If I couldn't go there, I'd go to Oman.
