Cancelled hotel bookeing - are there any resale sites

I've googled cant find any sites that seem any use

Have you every had to cancel a hotel in England where you booked, paid up front and no money back T&C if you cancelled - if so, were you able to sell your booking?

If you were, I'm trying to think as they ask for our debit or cc - so how does it work

Do you have travel insurance? Depending on the reason for cancellation (e.g. diagnosed illness) you may be able to recover your money.
