Horrific moment police ram cow with patrol car twice on London street

Video footage captured an officer's car smashing into the animal, which was strolling down a street and 'in distress' in Staines-upon-Thames last night having escaped from its enclosure.

I can't bring myself to become aerated about this. Perhaps I'm cold hearted.

Bumbleebeetree · 15/06/2024 19:18

Horrible, heatless policeman. And a pathetic excuse...if the cow was distressed before, it certainly was after being hit twice. Poor thing.

Hawki · 15/06/2024 19:22

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator personally that was out of order

ReggaetonLente · 15/06/2024 19:26

I mean, I don’t think it’s great. As a fully paid up lifelong vegetarian, I quite like cows. But this one was charging at property and members of the public, and several attempts to capture it had failed. In an ideal world there’d be a specialist response unit for such things I suppose but there’s not, and these officers had to do what they could to prevent further harm to humans, putting themselves in danger in the process. I’m glad I don’t have to make such decisions!

rwalker · 15/06/2024 19:31

and the alternative is leave it to run into traffic and cause a serious accident

people can be killed when there vehicle is in collision with livestock

whilst very sad faced but faced with the alternative they definitely did the right thing

how would OP feel if there family were killed or injured in an accident with livestock

I hear you but I hear the police as well

As other posted - the cow was out of control and as per my post, dangero to Joe public, drivers etc

I found it shocking as I felt initially a dart gun, then a gun

As I said I'm a fan of the police and since posting - I also feel for the officer that had to do this

This is what happens as we star building around farming field etc IMO

Since post my OP - my conclusion, an awful story but one where officer saved the public from harm. The police person driving the car must be feeling upset as well
Sad story all around but as I said, it could have been much worse!!

Sadly, this has happened before in more urban areas. I'm rural Scotland (by an A road though). Here it would be rounded up by farmers, possibly tranxxed by a Vet. I'm actually just in from a journey where around a dozen sheep had got onto the road. Myself & front car in incoming traffic parked across the road , got out & herded them back into the field (some other drivers helped - 5 of us vs 12 sheep!) Poor cow

Sunshineonasameyday · 15/06/2024 21:45

Did you know cows kill more people than sharks do?

What would you have done not of.

Coconuts also kill more people than sharks do.

The cow is still alive. Better they did this than shoot it.

So do men. But what’s your point exactly?

This.

It was a calf not an adult

The police were involved for hours

They did not call a farmer

They did not call in a vet

Police friends and the farming community here are disgusted.

Yes it was absolutely disgusting and unjustified in any way whatsoever. I live in a farming community and several people have said today how appalling this was. A wanton act of cruelty. Any farmer would have calmed this calf and sorted the situation without bloodshed.
I hope that they are prosecuted.

CalicoPusscat · 15/06/2024 22:03

So the cow is presumably OK and receiving treatment?

It's puzzling why a tranc dart couldn't be used but hopefully it will be OK, if very traumatised.

I don't want to watch the video though.

You couldn't just have posted in the thread that's already running rather than starting a new thread ?? 🙄

rwalker · 15/06/2024 19:32

And what would you of done

Get a vet on the scene or tranquilize it? Cruelly ramming into an animal isn't the answer. The poor thing would be terrified and risk being more of a danger... I mean come on🤔
