How do you save a table at breakfast? Row with other guest

So you're staying in a hotel with one other person, and breakfast is a buffet where you can choose your own table. How do you save your spot?

  • take turns going up to get food, so there's always someone at the table.
  • both go up together but leave some belongings there, like a jacket or sunglasses.
  • something else to indicate your presence (if so what?)

I had a pretty unpleasant encounter with a horrible man this morning over this, and am wondering who is in the wrong.

We take it in turns. Tricker is when I travel for work and I am alone. I just leave a coat on my chair.

We usually get drinks and leave coffee/tea on the table and a coat over the back of a chair …
On holiday we left a half full bottle of drink on a table as it was buffet style eating and was bloody cross to return to our table to find staff had taken it and thrown it away… someone had then sat at our table… it was busy so we had deserts in hand and no where to sit… and half a bottle of drink which cost us £3 had been taken and tipped down the sink!
I do think restaurants need to come up with a better way of communicating that a table is taken and still in use!

Seems an odd question. Why wouldn’t an adult know this basic stuff?

Have you bothered to read the OP's posts or did you just read the title and wade in? 🙄

I only read the title then I waded in.

I always leave a book on the table and anything else that I don’t mind if it goes missing.
