Anyone else sleep with earbuds in and radio on?

Starting to wonder if this is good for me or my ears?

do ears need to air at night?

is it letting my brain rest? Usually put the sleep timer on but not always…TERRIBLE sleeper anyway.

If I can’t sleep I listen to BBC Sounds on my phone with just one ear bud in loosely .Most of the stories/ dramas are in short episodes and the phone turns off if I don’t download the next episode. I play it very quietly.
The earbud usually just falls out.

No because I'd lose the bloody AirPods! I have a bluetooth headband sleep headphones I use and often drift off to a podcast which just stops when it's done.

This kind of thing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MUSICOZY-Headphones-Bluetooth-Ultra-Soft-Nighttime-Black-Curved/dp/B0BRQDCN7W/ref=sr_1_4?crid=8P44FZ095YQI&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ONdSg97AoJIN4FnYdY8n0ilOsaNrOnZKDCmwdQheF1KwoCihNgj8MaDkuxsxMJb11DqV_1p6eNR_A4Rj-4r3A2vvxauXKAtaIKKJtuKBAn0kmPWD1yFJ8goX_3-MnteuXXearWiydi2RvEIZX9cPLd_rqrur-2sPLjx2THxEfeW34etb3ZMJxD7208Pm0-2HoJCL1Cuy3qrC_pDONML35kpip9_rmtJ_Kb0-cBTYS3M.1vdsBt3dl3_8ibFC7l9iWdMQqzUvWK1b8b-3umlMipM&dib_tag=se&keywords=bluetooth+sleep+headphones&qid=1718353077&sprefix=bluetooth+sleep+headpho%2Caps%2C475&sr=8-4 - yes I look like a prat but they're more comfortable to lie down with and I tend to replace them when they start to go a bit wonky (I usually get a couple of years out of a pair).

I don't do it every night but sometimes if I'm a bit stressed. I listen to waves or sleep hypnosis videos.

I've got a sleep headband, it was always too uncomfortable to do with AirPods before. I'm sure it was under £10 on TikTok shop and it's amazing , really comfortable and the battery lasts ages.

CallThatCloudy · 14/06/2024 09:27

Yes, I do this (usually in one ear so I can sleep on my side), and I also use BBC sounds for half an hour. It's very rare that I listen to more than ten minutes before I'm asleep, but when the programme stops it wakes me up! That's when I drop the ear bud on the floor and go straight back to sleep. I actually find it hard to go to sleep in silence.

Cecilly · 14/06/2024 09:38

Yes, I do. Every night I listen to Newscast on bbc sounds. If I wake up in the middle of the night I listen to the bbc world news podcast. Listening to something stops me from thinking and helps my brain turn off.

AliceCallous · 14/06/2024 09:41

I find that things in my ears make them sore after a while, so I couldn't wear them every single night.

Like others, I have a sleep headband. I also have a Bluetooth speaker next to my bed for ambient noise or an audiobook.

warningsecurityguards · 14/06/2024 09:45

I do, and if I’m honest I do sleep better without noise all night, but I can’t get to sleep without it.
When I remember I use the sleep function and the radio will turn itself off, but I often don’t remember to.

@DoNotScrapeMyDataBishes ooh....I'll try that, thank you!

If I'm away without dp I listen to a podcast with one earbud in. I find it difficult to sleep away from home if he's not there.

WithIcePlease · 14/06/2024 10:18

Yes every night. One earbud.
The old Sherlock Holmes on bbc sounds or 'soothing pod' on Spotify

NeverEndingWait · 14/06/2024 12:26

Bluetooth headband and an audiobook for me. Proper buds would be far too uncomfortable but mine just feels like an eye mask!

MrsHouseMouse · 14/06/2024 17:59

I'm an avid capital listener during the night... on low on a little radio across the room

TwoBlueFish · 22/06/2024 22:33

I listen to audiobooks or podcasts every night. I use one earbud only as it’s not comfy to sleep on. I keep mine in all night. Favourite thing to listen to at the moment is You’re Dead to Me on BBC Sounds.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/06/2024 22:36

I go to sleep with earbuds in, listening to an audiobook, but I set the timer so it goes off after an hour - usually I wake up then, and take the earbuds out, then fall back to sleep.

emmetgirl · 22/06/2024 22:37

I go to sleep with earbuds in listening to audiobooks. I've never been able to get to sleep when it's quiet.

hastalav · 22/06/2024 22:46

Partially deaf (well quite bad really) here. I can sleep with bluetooth hearing aids in, but that means that they don't have enough time to charge when I wake in the morning.... disaster!

Ear pods don't stay in and I am constantly fishing around the bed for them. Doesn't work.

So I now use the old fashioned wired earbud things that plug into the phone. They stay in my ear far better. I can hear through these only on one side so that works. They just stay in all night and I set the timer on the podcasts. I couldn't sleep without listening to something anything. Thank god I've got a bit of hearing left, but that won't last for many more years as each year it deteriorates a bit. But for now.... And hopefully by the time it gets so bad that the earphones don't work they will come up with something else, or I'll just buy a spare set of hearing aids (for £3k, they are custom made). But there's no price on quality of life is there?
