Could I re-seam waterproof trousers with insulating tape?

I have an inexpensive pair of waterproof over-trousers. The tape on the insides of the seams has come away and I keep getting wet!

Options to purchase are:

  • an adhesive I brush on the seams
  • a sealant tape which needs ironing /heat to apply

I'm not convinced the former is worth spending £10 on and I think trying to iron on the latter would probably lead to melted trousers.

Electrical insulating tape is about the correct width. I'm tempted just to try that. Is that bonkers? Has anyone done it? Duck tape is too fat, but I suppose I could cut down.

IMO insulating tape will come away with damp and leave a very sticky irritating mess.
Gaffa tape (duck) on the inside should do fine. If it shows through as a white line and bothers you, a Sharpie is your friend.

I've used stormsure for all kinds of things, including this, and it really does work well. But would be too expensive if you needed to do all the seams.
