Whatsapp message deletion

Yoghurtandspoon · 12/06/2024 05:32

I sent a message to a person I thought had blocked me and it was delievered. I deleted it immediately. Will they still receive a notification that I sent a message? Will my chat move up to the top of their whatsapp conversations because of the deleted message? Or would they have to open our conversation to ever realise? If they had deleted our chat, would the deletion message have started a new one?

I'm not sure unfortunately. Do you have a friend you can trial it with? Send them a message and quickly delete and get them to report back on the notifications etc?

takeitorleave · 12/06/2024 05:40

It does move to the top of their messages and shows as a deletion as I had one this week where someone had posted in a group by mistake

takeitorleave · 12/06/2024 05:42

Oh not sure though if you're blocked ...

jelly79 · 12/06/2024 06:01

How do you accidentally send a message to someone that you think is blocked?

They will receive a notification and see a message has been deleted but they won't be able to respond if you have blocked them

Howbizarre22 · 12/06/2024 06:03

Yes it shows as “this message was deleted”

aurynne · 12/06/2024 06:21

Why exactly did you write and send that person a message when you thought you were blocked? What point were you trying to make?

Sometimeswinning · 12/06/2024 06:32

If I saw this I’d assume it was sent in error. It’s easy to do on WhatsApp.

But in your circumstance where you thought you’d been blocked I’d also assume you were having a go and then changed your mind. All you can do now is wait for the inner cringe to go. Takes a few days!

Yoghurtandspoon · 12/06/2024 06:50

I wasn't having a go, I just slightly poured my heart out. I thought it would never be read by anybody 😳I didn't realise I had been unblocked. How embarrassing.

I'm pretty certain the notification disappears if you delete the message before they've seen it. Just not sure whether I'd move up in the chat list or start a new one if I was deleted.

You'll be at the top of their message list now and they'll see 'deleted message'

BakewellGin1 · 12/06/2024 08:15

It will say this message was deleted
However be aware it can be deleted by you but they may have already read it on preview screen without it showing as read

Yep. This.

ILikeALemonWedgeInMyGin · 12/06/2024 08:19

Did you delete it for both of you or just you? Did you delete it before they'd received it, the number of ticks would tell you.
If you deleted it for both, it'll show up that you sent but deleted a message, so they'll know you said something but they won't be able to read it because the message will have been deleted. If you only deleted it for yourself, it will still show fully on their end.

Forgot to add that yes it will move your chat history to the top of the list as well as open a new chat if they'd previously deleted everything

Yoghurtandspoon · 12/06/2024 09:12

He's sent a question mark so he definitely knows that I sent something. This is so embarrassing. I'll send it to myself next time.

Couldn't you see his whstsapp photo again? Therefore you'd know youre not blocked

You'll just have to say , sorry posted message to wrong person

Then BLOCK HIM! So you can't do it again!

beckybarefoot · 12/06/2024 15:29

i dont understand, you sent a message to someone you thought had blocked you? you say it was you pooring your heart out? i assume this is some person you've had a date/relationship with?

maybe you needed the message to be read? maybe it was a good thing?

Just send "sorry, wrong person"

If he sent a question mark then he hasn't read it on the preview screen. He'll just have seen a "this message was deleted" notification. So you don't need to be embarrassed. Just say sorry that was meant for someone else

Just send "sorry, wrong person"

This is all you have to do OP, embarrassment spared.

Yes. To all of it.

yeah they see you’ve sent a message and it’s deleted. Yes it will go to the top of their chat.

andfinallyhereweare · 29/07/2024 10:11

I sent someone a message for the first time once then got cold feet and deleted it… he told me he saw the deleted message notification…

MargotEmin · 29/07/2024 10:15

Don't respond to his question mark, keep it mysterious, ooooh...
