We’ve just had the approval through for a small extension at the back of our house - if we go ahead with it, it’s looking like it will overlap with the first few weeks of having a newborn and I’m really undecided about whether we should postpone or just go ahead.
DH thinks we should go ahead now as:
- The baby might be late anyway
- If we waited until next year the baby should hopefully be in a routine by then so it will be more disruptive & potentially a bit dangerous if he’s a bit more mobile next summer
- Neighbours really opposed our plans so DH is keen to get it done asap (also prices might go up next year.)
4. Part of the extension includes a utility room which will be really helpful for drying baby’s clothes over winter
And I do see his points but I’m really not sure how I feel about all the disruption around the time of a new baby - I’m a first time Mum so have no idea how I’ll find it and also the thought of having builders in the house either at the end of my third trimester or when baby is here really doesn’t appeal - just worry there will be no privacy & I don’t want all our friends & family coming to meet the baby when our house is all messy from the builders.
We live close to my parents & PIL who’ve both already said we could stay with them / would help with cleaning which is very nice of them but not sure how I feel about that When I’m trying to establish myself as a mum. But then I do see the appeal of just cracking on and getting it done!!
I’m the first of my friends to have a baby so I can’t ask them & my Mum / MIL have
said they would do opposite things so I’m really torn ! Does anyone have any advice please ?
