How are you supposed to actually use butter?

I usually just use fake Lurpak from Aldi for day-to-day sandwiches but for when I’m feeling fancy I keep a block of proper butter with salt crystals in it, in the fridge (I keep it in the fridge because one block lasts me months, no-one else eats it). I get it out hours in advance and even when it’s at room temperature it’s still hard enough that I could probably break a window with it. I’ve had my block out since yesterday morning and it’s still not spreadable Confused

Is there a trick to being able to use it or what?

What's going on in your households? Hardly ever use butter?

Use it for frying, add at the end of sauces to make glossy. Room temp butter should be spreadable, particularly in June.

I’m the only one in the house that eats butter, block or tub. Everyone else prefers the even faker stuff 🤢 I don’t do a lot of frying either, and the only sauce I put butter in is cheese sauce for lasagne (and I buy the cheaper blocks of butter for that! Not wasting my expensive salty goodness on lasagne). It just doesn’t go down quickly when there’s only one person eating it occasionally.

I don't often. I don't fry things in butter, I'm fat and don't need the extra calories!

Garlic mushrooms with fresh mushrooms, garlic and salted butter……..one of the best dishes on the planet imo.

Hot toast and a thick slice of butter, like cheese 😁

Cut off how much you want to use. Fill a cup with boiling water and empty it. Put hot and empty mug upside down over the top of the butter and leave for about a minute.
You’ll have warm spreadable butter mmmmmm

Ours stays out on the side in a butter dish.
