Stupidly didn't complain to Vinted - can this be fixed??

I bought a gorgeous handbag and when it arrived I stupidly didn't check it over thoroughly before clicking that all was ok. It looked fine, but when I actually went to use it I found that little flakes of material (leather?) are constantly coming off 😞 I've attached photos - can the bag be saved?!

It's a Jasper Conran one if it makes any difference.

No, there’s nothing you can do I don’t think. It’s a kind of dry rot that affects shoes and bags (usually faux leather ones I think) that have been in storage for a long time. The chances are it looked fine when the seller photographed it and sent it too, then it started degrading since it’s been handled more recently. Quite a common issue with secondhand shoes and bags.

That’s why the ‘everything is ok’ button is there…

Not fixable. Its faux leather not real, age related degradation, just have to bin or beg vented that you clicked by mistake

Catnipcupcakes · 10/06/2024 17:46

No, its done now, and that does look like ‘vegan leather’ (Faux leather, plastic, pleather), not real leather, so polish / conditioning treatments won’t save it.

I can’t see it making a difference it being a Jasper Conran one, unless you think its not and you’re asking does it make a difference that you’ve been sold a fake claiming to be designer?

I’m assuming you didn’t pay a lot on vinted (Is it Jasper Conran for Debenhams? - he did do a line for them) so just chalk it up to experience and bin it.

I know, I know, but the seller doesn't get paid until you've clicked it's all ok so I tend to try and do it straight away. My mistake 😞

No, didn't pay much, somewhere around £20 I think.

Only mentioned it's JC because I expect their bags to be better made than ones for Primark, for example.

I don't think there's anything you can do now. You could try messaging them seller but I'm not sure they could act now it's been processed even if they were willing to.
Were the description and photos misleading? That's quite extensive damage and £20 isn't cheap

unsurebut · 10/06/2024 18:44

It looks pristine in the photos. I'm guessing what a pp said is accurate - it's been in storage and has deteriorated without the seller knowing. It did come wrapped in a bag.

I’ve never used Vinted because I’ve heard too many stories of clothes being described as new without tags and then filthy, damaged old clothes being sent out.

On ebay you can return stuff using the reason ‘doesn’t match photo or description’ for an automatic refund, whether that’s the case or not. And I think I’m right in thinking that in the UK you have the right to return anything sold without being seen (internet purchase) for any or no reason.

Is that a possibility? Or (I’m just guessing here) does clicking the ‘all OK’ button somehow negate the right to refund because its a private seller? I’m sure someone can tell me.

I'm really just looking for a way to salvage the bag, I'm gutted, really love it!

You can't salvage it OP. Sorry.

No, OP. Its not salvageable.

I’d just bin it.

It might be possible to replace the binding round the top of the bag and the bags straps, some shoe menders can do this, or if you know someone with a fairly heavy duty sewing machine. Although obviously this would add more on to what you've already paid for the bag. As others have said because it is faux leather you can't actually repair what is there, so it would have to be replaced.

LandingXraft · 11/06/2024 00:19

Grrrrr… Vinted 😡 typical

I've got loads of their bags that go like that hence now only buy cheap on vinted

Not sure I'd risk wasting the money on that tbh as mine all started like this, then shortly after the same appeared on every crease line of the main body of the bag too
