What are the BEST salt and vinegar crisps

I absolutely love the flavour but frequently find they are never strong enough.

I'm talking tongue tingly, upper lip sweat inducing, super duper strong salt and vinegar flavour.

What are your best recommendations? So far the strongest I've found is Co-op sea salt and chardonnay, but they seem weaker than they used to be 😫

Hit me up if you know a better one!

I have tried all the s&v crisps available in all good (and shit) shops in the U.K. and have come to the conclusion that the fancy ones are all disappointing. Either so strong they're mouth-numbing so you don't taste them after 3 bites or a bit bland. Added to that they're so desperate to be 'posh' that they often taste sweet Envy.

What you need are 1980s-style reformed starchy snacks. They retain the cheap salty vinegary flavour like nothing else. In ascending order of preference :

3: Discos
2: Squares
1: Chipsticks.

HOW HAS NOBODY SAID HULA HOOPS?

Funnywonder · 10/06/2024 20:54

If you can get your hands on Tayto, the salt and vinegar ones would strip the paint off your walls just from opening the bag. They are fabulous!

It's the coop ones. They strip your tounge

jackandy · 10/06/2024 21:16

Co op for us, we go out of our way to get them.

Tesco crinkle cut in the big bags are also really strong.

Can't believe some people are suggesting Pringles. These are tasteless compared to the above ones!

AhBiscuits · 10/06/2024 21:17

Came on to say co-op. My mouth is watering just thinking about them.

Co-op. Even the hardcore s&v lovers can't handle them sometimes.

Agree!! I love them

AhBiscuits · 10/06/2024 21:19

Discos pack a punch too.

Fiddlersgreen · 10/06/2024 21:21

I think I have found my people.

Although I haven’t tried these co-op ones, I don’t have a branch near me.
Going to have to make a trip out to find them. I love Pringles and Discos

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 10/06/2024 21:22

Smiths Chip sticks.

Wow, they are going to change your life. I'd buy up whatever stock they have when you go.

midlifeattheoasis · 10/06/2024 21:27

Tyrells without a doubt. Salt and vinegary without ripping your mouth to shreds

honkifyalikebeans · 10/06/2024 21:30

Oh god I think you might have hooked me into something new - these sound amazing.

Previously I was going with spicy crisps for the tongue burn but this is a new path

Spirallingdownwards · 10/06/2024 21:32

Co op all the way here too.

(plus if you are going anyway their cheese and jalapeño bread)

somethingwickedlivesnextdoor · 10/06/2024 21:36

Walkers
McCoys

TheDogsMother · 10/06/2024 21:47

Co-op Chardonnay vinegar and sea salt. Hands down.

thingsineverthoughtidsay · 10/06/2024 21:49

The Co-op ones are absolutely the best. But Aldi do a good own brand version as well, that are pretty much as good!

Inarightpickleandpreserve · 10/06/2024 21:50

Disco or Pringle

Lokshen · 10/06/2024 21:52

Tyrells, gorgeous

Andthatwasthatshesaid · 10/06/2024 21:52

Burts are quite good.

love a Burts crisp!

Alllllthemunchies · 10/06/2024 17:06

I lick all the flavouring off before demolishing the crisp and it makes my tongue so sore but I can't get enough 😂

🤣 exactly this! They are lethal

stressedespresso · 11/06/2024 00:57

Without a doubt - O’Donnells. We’re in NI though, not sure if they’re available outside Ireland!

Alllllthemunchies · 11/06/2024 10:20

I'm going to try all of these suggestions thanks ladies! Who knew so many of us enjoy melting the skin on our tongues 😂

@ScaredSceptic hmmm...maybe my threshold for such things is quite low. My DH finds them really strong too though. I'd better try the coop ones.

Adding their all dressed limited edition crisps to the list. They're addictive!
