Nitrofurantoin (UTI antibiotic)

Experiences of this antibiotic?

I've terrified myself reading threads on here that say the side effects are horrendous. I'm emetophobic and desperately can't afford to take time off work with anything, and I'm such an anxious person!

Like a PP, the only side effect I've ever had from it is that I apparently pee Mountain Dew for the duration of the course!

Thank you for this thread! I'm currently taking Nitro (3 days) for a uti. The side effects have been mild but unpleasant. Hi-vis yellow wee, slight tummy ache, nausea, and general fatigue and achiness. But with 2 kids, 5 and under, this is normal at this time of year!

I developed uti symptoms at 9pm, and got myself down to the pharmacy 12hrs later, when it opened. So I picked it up and got treatment really quickly. It has worked really well.

My last uti turned into a very complicated uti infection, and I ended up on a 14 day course of 2 different types of antibiotics, and that was brutal. I'll take this anyday!

You should ask for 7 days ….3 days and you run the risk of the uti responding initially …..the bacteria remain as it wasn’t sufficient….then after 3 days the bacteria start to grow again…..or worse still embedd in the bladder lining and come out intermittently….mean ongoing chronic uti….. good luck
