Been called homophobic ( Pet Shop boys)

I was chatting with a acquaintance who l haven't seen in person for a few years.
He told me he was going to see The Pet Shop boys at Radio one Party in Blackpool.
I asked who else were playing.. l said l don't like The Pet Shop boys music.. never have.
He then said to me " that's because you're a homophobic ".
I was gob smacked.
I said half my family and friends are gay including my daughter .
I even go to Pride with them.
He put his hand up in front of my face as if to say .. stop talking.. laughed at me and said " if you say so" and walked off.
I have now blocked him on my social media/ WhatsApp etc.
I will probably see him at the local pride.. but will be with my daughter and her girlfriend ( they are 30).. would you just ignore him if l do? Or say something else?

Based on that interaction and assuming no relevant backstory/drip feed then I think he's a bit of an idiot to call you homophobic for not liking PSBs music

I do think it was a bit rude to say you don’t like a band and never have when someone is excitedly telling you of their upcoming plans.

Pet Shop Boys were brilliant when they supported Take That a few years ago .

But no, it does not make you homophobic to not like a specific group or their music and he needs to stop being a twat.

I'm so fed up of these people that spend their lives offended at anything and everything, but this really takes the biscuit. And why make everything about your sexuality? I don't much like The Pet Shop Boys either, apart from West End Girl, their music has always left me cold. However, I love the early Elton John stuff, loved George Michael and adored everything that Freddie Mercury ever did, so what does that make me?

I remember offending a good friend over her choice of music once, although not deliberately. She told me her and her DH were going to see Cliff Richard ( this was many, many years ago) and I was so surprised that I blurted out, "Oh did someone give you some unwanted tickets" and she very tartly replied "No Lardo, we bought them ourselves because we actually like Cliff Richard". That put me in my place and I was suitably contrite.

Those asking why l didn't say anything.. he turned on his heel with hands in the air .. waving both before l could say anything else.

Why does it make you homonpbobic? Is it because one (or both?) are gay?
People are allowed to like or dislike artists, it's nothing to do with their sexuality, its because they think their music is shit.
I do actually like the Pet shop boys BTW, and I have no issue with anyones sexuality!!
