A note to pet owners

It’s all well and good being responsible and having your pet microchipped…but it goes out of the window if you don’t bother to update your pets details when you move!!

Ive seen no end of posts on a local vet page on fb asking for help to find the owners of this cat/dog, who they have the name for, but can’t locate the owner because the details is out of date.

So if you move home, update your details asap!! It’s one of the first things I did.

Totally agree, although I also feel that in terms of having your pets microchipped vets should scan animals every time they are taken in.

Anyone can claim a cat or dog as their own and register them with a vet etc and almost none of them will ever scan for a chip, they simply take your word for it which blows my mind.

We moved 7 years ago and recently sold our car. We discovered we never changed the address on the document with the dvla. Changed it online then sold a week later. Clearly not the same but easy to understand how it would slip your mind.

Our vet checks the chip at the annual health check, for migration and up to date details.

I got an email to update my cat’s details last week before the new law so hopefully everyone got that and will have done so.
