A long weekend in Malta... where is good to stay?

DD1 has had the year from hell...divorce from cheating ex, exams in her profession, and has survived and come out stronger than ever.
We'd like to do a long weekend abroad in September, to Malta as it's warm still and DD1 did her elective medic placement there.
We've stayed in Qawra before but would like to try somewhere else. Nothing fancy just a friday-monday somewhere pleasant.

Any suggestions welcomed!

Valetta is a beautiful base and as the capital it's ideal to get to other parts of the island from. If you want to be somewhere more beachy then st Julian's is a balance of being in a very populous busy area so good transport and a beach, or on the north side of the island a bit further on from qawra is melleiha which is more touristy and a lot of expats but nothing on the scale of the Costa del sol.

If you can go to rabat at night it is very atmospheric.

There is a fiesta being celebrated in Melleiha on 8th Sept. I love the festas they are lovely family fun with fireworks and very feel good.

Ah I meant mdina at night, it is next to Rabat. Beautiful place day or night but less crowded at night and all lit up it is so pretty and a few bars and restaurants tucked away.

Forget Malta. Gozo is lovely.

Thank you :) I think we would like somewhere we can chill on the beach with a book. And somewhere to explore. I've never been to Mdina and really must!
I met my dh in Malta in 1988 Grin so have a fondness for the island!

I think Gozo would suit your needs!

I agree with Gozo if you can be arsed to get there for a weekend, it's a bit of a trek.

Otherwise Valetta then you can wander around locally and perhaps have a trip or two out as if you're going on the bus, most start there so a lot of the time if starting elsewhere you have to go into Valetta first anyway.

There aren't many beaches in Malta/Gozo. I'd do some proper research as to whether it meets your needs.
It's a beautiful place, we loved our holiday there, we preferred Gozo to Malta.

I've never been to Gozo so thanks for that... it might be ideal. We aren't bothered about sandy beaches... happy to swim off the rocks as we just like to swim, snorkel and watch the fish ! And Malta is a short flight (relatively... my son lives in Australia so everything feels short and easy in comparison!!)
