Does this meal have a name?

After a fridge meal a few years ago I used ready made pasty, put a tin of tomatoes on it and then added onions, mushrooms, whatever was in the fridge and topped with cheese. I called it mummy surprise.
Now my kids are 15 and mummy surprise is not a great name anymore. Pasty fridge use up sounds awful.
Does this meal have a real name, or can you think of a better name?

I'd call it veggie tart? If it was folded over then veggie pastie? It sounds nice though, whatever you call it! If it's a bit more pizza like then you could be cheesy and call it cheat-za. Lol

FoxEaredBat · 06/06/2024 18:26

We have something similar, which is called either "pizza tart" or "fridge tart" - pizza tart has more cheese than fridge tart.

BrightNewLife · 06/06/2024 18:27

As a pp said, in French it would be a “tarte salée” (savoury tart) if you want to be fancy.

(Pronounced tarte sal-ay)

Sounds pretty nice!

Thanks for the clarification OP! I assumed pastry but then doubted myself after the first few posts.

Tarte Explode (although obviously using your actual surname!)

Pissaladiere is the closest thing I can think of in real life....... although in our house that would end up being called Piss Salad 😂

Mybestusername · 06/06/2024 18:29

Cornish calzone? Grin

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 06/06/2024 18:31

PUP
Pimped Up Pasty

LongSinceGotUpAndGone · 06/06/2024 18:31

Disappointed it isn't an actual pasty!

mindexplode · 06/06/2024 18:39

Maybe as it's French it should be called maman tarte?

OP posts:
mindexplode · 06/06/2024 18:39

Or tarte d maman?

4fingerKitKat · 06/06/2024 18:42

French pizza?

But I’d stick with mummy surprise, it’s endearing (even if your DC are at the stage they don’t agree!)

Newgirls · 06/06/2024 18:42

It’s a galette I think? Tho tarte de maman is good!

Cuppachuchu · 06/06/2024 18:49

Fancy Pasty.

StrikeItMucky · 06/06/2024 18:50

We've made similar for years, but always use puff pastry and score it along the width and length, about 2cms in from the edge. We've always just called it puff pastry pizza! Simple name, simple recipe but great taste 😀

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/06/2024 19:07

That Tarty Pizza Thing is what my boys call a similar dinner I make to get rid of random stuff in the fridge. I always called it 'odds-and-ends pie' but they, too, have rebranded it...

INeedToClingToSomething · 06/06/2024 19:09

I have done that with ready made puff and called it puff pastry pizza.

OMGsamesame · 06/06/2024 19:11

It sounds like a Pasty Parm

marshmallowfinder · 06/06/2024 19:23

mindexplode · 06/06/2024 18:18

Pastry I think, sorry spelling isn't my strong point. The sheet ready made stuff, either filo or shortcross

Shortcrust.

mindexplode · 06/06/2024 19:24

Thanks, I think that was a typo not a spelling issue but always good to help

Ginkypig · 06/06/2024 19:32

Why can’t you keep that name?

these are the traditions that become family legends

we had a thing called mummy’s poison cake which was basically just a loaf cake with edible icing shaped into a tiny cross just on one area so whoever ends up with the slice with the cross had the poisoned piece, cue much hilarity amongst the children every time.

now many years later my siblings children call it that and they don’t even know why it’s just what it’s called. We’ve never told them the origin as we do understand it’s a bit dark and probably only works if you were there but the name has stuck!

rainbowbee · 06/06/2024 19:50

Tarte Roulette.
No-wastey pastry

KirstenBlest · 06/06/2024 19:54

pissaladiere anglaise

mindexplode · 06/06/2024 19:54

I'm loving the ideas
Why am I looking for a new name? They both questioned the surprise part as they knew what it would be.

I also think it is a veg tart. But I wanted to add that 'Pasty fridge use up' as a prospective name made me snort, so thankyou

WhamBamThankU · 06/06/2024 21:24

Eggless quiche? 😅
