Anyone else watching? I thought it was so moving from start to finish hearing all the stories, the music. Such a fine day for it too. The memorial looks stunning. It will likely be the last big anniversary with veterans in attendance as most are nearly 100 now.

I'm watching it. It is very emotional.

I just stumbled across it on TV and ended up watching it for two hours! We certainly know how to put on a ceremony.

It's magnificent. Very moving, the veterans especially, downplaying their bravery, remembering their comrades.

The bit where a veteran said how his whole life had been draped in sorrow because of D Day made me cry buckets.

For me, as a French citizen and whose parents grew up under the German occupation, it was very emotional to watch.
I have visited the landing beaches, the memorials and graveyards as a school trip many years ago. It was humbling.
We, as a nation, owe so much to these men and women.
I grew up hearing stories of the occupation from my family. The hunger and fear, they experienced as children. My great uncle was sent to a forced labour camp in Germany. He came back and was such a gentle man.
One of my grandfather was arrested in the middle of the night by SS and disappeared for 3 months. He came back too.
So a big thank you to those who gave their lives so France and Europe could be at peace. My gratitude will never stop.
