Is it worth keeping the car purely to accrue NCB for DS - any car insurance experts please?

DS is 23 later this year, and for various reasons didn't pass his test before going to uni in large city, he's now planning to stay on for masters & likely phd so 1 - 4 years more. DH (somewhat rashly) bought him a car when he was learning and it's costing us just under £300 a year to insure whilst it sits on the drive barely used.

We can afford the £300 comfortably, but DH is now talking about getting rid until DS starts learning again and I'm wondering if it's worth holding onto because of the NCB he's accruing particularly in light of the ridiculous prices of insurance atm - any thoughts/experience? Ds is the registered keeper of the car and is the main driver on the policy (which is a multi-car policy) to avoid drip feed!

Is the insurance in ds name, or is it in yours/dh's name with ds as main driver? If it's in ds name then yes it would be worth keeping, if it's not then probably not. Some insurers give no claims discount as a named driver, but it's not universal.
