Activities for a team day

ajsbd · 05/06/2024 14:38

I've been asked to come up with an activity for our team day. I can have up to an hour. It doesn't have to be professional/work related. Anything that helps team building/ relationship building etc would be fine.

Please share ideas that have worked for you before :)

Oh, cringe.

People can just have a cup of tea, piece of cake, chat about what they want or just chill, read a book if they hate this sort of thing?

Asl for your slot at the end of the day, then let the people go early. That'll be popular!

BIWI · 05/06/2024 14:44

Lunch and drinks.

There have only been 2 activities that have not been so absolutely awful that I didn’t want to scream. They were both optional and tended to attract only the quirkier, quieter employees but they were great. I don’t see why they aren’t used for the normal group-wide activities.

art
board games

as an employee with a disability, the normal group activities are awful. Food typically leaves me out. Sport is either impossible or I have had people actively criticize my lack of ability. Just general socializing without an activity is challenging.

I suspect puzzles might also be fun.

Going home 😬

FGS the predictable misery guts are out in force.

Get people to bring in Lego, jigsaws, Meccano etc and have some easy competitions.

Friend always has jigsaw races at Christmas parties - fastest to put together a 20 piece toddler jigsaw, that sort of thing.

30 mins to build the best Lego model then vote for the winner.

Picnic, weather permitting. No enforced fun.

DisforDarkChocolate · 05/06/2024 14:50

Have a vote on the worst team building event people have attended, a prize for the winner.

Pizza and beer

Sunnyside4 · 05/06/2024 14:52

Depends on budget but time off for drink and cake, maybe with a fun quiz on paper - the prize a bottle of alcohol/lager.

AlisonDonut · 05/06/2024 14:54

If I ever have to do this it is a quiz based on the thing that the group do so everyone can feel good about knowing some easy and medium answers, with a few difficult ones. Also can be done with no resources and make the questions up on the train.

Board games.

Gokarting > pub
Escape room > pub
Bowling > pub
Flight club > pub
Crazy Golf > pub

haddockfortea · 05/06/2024 15:06

Put everyone in teams and get them to come up with ideas for an activity for a team-building day. They then have to present their idea at the end, and everyone votes for the best one.

Osllo · 05/06/2024 15:13

Ask them all beforehand for a fact no-one knows. Make it into a multiple-choice quiz e.g. who got a pea stuck up their nose A Martha B Tom C Steve D Lorraine.

You can do it on Kahoot. Team bonding without them really having to do anything except click buttons.
