A list for a cleaner

So, I just want a general consensus really.

I have a new cleaner starting this week and I will be working so won't be able to chat to them. Would it be rude if I gave her a list of what I'd like done in each room? It's quite specific, but I know how I like things done.

I don't want to come across as rude, or insult her, but equally, I think I'd find it useful if I was cleaning a new client's home.

Am I being unreasonable to give her a list?

I'm a big fan of lists but didn't want to get suckered into the trap of doing the thinking for them. I asked how many hours it would take to keep the house 'ready for my mother to visit'. So far (nearly three decades) it's worked out really well.

Need to find a cleaner whose standards are higher than or ash high as yours and pay them for enough hours.

Leave the responsibility with them. Good luck.

I agree with this 100%. I've tried a whole load of cleaners, the one I have now is amazing. She wouldn't have objected to a list but I think it would have made her feel micro- managed, and she would have resented it slightly. I prefer to trust her. But the key is getting the right person, as everyone before her was a bit crap so it truly is tricky to find the right one

Cleaner here... Happy to have a list if it makes the customers feel they are getting what they want done!! I lady has adhd and ASD. Her mh team suggested she got me. She says the difference in her mh is immense.. She does me a detailed list every week. Other's just let me crack on.. Had no complaints as yet. And been SE since Jan 2013!!
Maybe do an Essentials list, and a Time Left list.

Thanks everyone. In the end, I asked the cleaner if she'd like a list or not, and she said she said she definitely wanted the list! She did a great job - well above my expectations.
