Travelcard / oyster options - three days in london with 11 year old

Hello, what is the cheapest way to get around london with an 11 year old. We will likely want to visit the major tourist sites, galleries etc, underground and bus.

I remember travelcards and oysters but been so long since I have visited.

We will be getting the train to London and staying a few days then returning to our home town (South East). I have a network card. Could I combine the regular train tickets with a travelcard for the three days or would I need an oyster card or something else? How would it work with my 11 year old - is there a kids version of an oyster or something else I need for him?

What is likely to be the cheapest option for us to allow travel around London on all three days, with or without the train to London tickets?

Many thanks

Young people get a discount- best way we found for the occasional visits is an Oyster card- which you will pay for (but can be kept forever).

Ask the staff in the tube station to help- they will need to put the young person discount on it. If you tell them how many days and your plans they are also very good at accurately estimating how much money to load it with.
Then it's a simple tap in and out for the tube or just once for a bus journey.
