I passed my driving test! I’m too embarrassed to tell people IRL so I’m telling MN

I’m 32 and feel a bit stupid telling people I’ve passed my test when most people do it as teenagers or early 20s. I’ve really lost confidence in myself over the years so I’m actually really pleased with myself for passing first time. I feel like I’m not completely useless for once. Please share your good news too!

Awesome!

You're going places, op!

😍🍸

merrymelodies · 05/06/2024 03:15

I didn't pass mine until I had DC, when I was in my mid-thirties. Up until then, I used public transport.

merrymelodies · 05/06/2024 03:15

Congrats though!

JuneIsBustinOutAllOver · 05/06/2024 03:20

Congratulations! I passed my test at 32, too.

I think the examiner was being kind to me as I was 8 months pregnant with DD1, but it didn’t matter, that one pass was all that mattered.

stronglatte · 05/06/2024 03:21

That's brilliant !! Well Done !

Meadowfinch · 05/06/2024 03:23

First time !! Well done 🍾

I only passed third time, so I'm impressed.

Goingasteady30 · 05/06/2024 05:55

Well done. Your driving test is one of the most nerve wracking things you'll have to do and it's a proper milestone to achieve and will open up opportunities for you with work options and social freedom.

Imisscoffee2021 · 05/06/2024 06:09

Amazing achievement! Dint be embarrassed, I passed in feb at 35 and shouted it from the rooftops 🤣

Toooldforthis36 · 05/06/2024 06:12

Excellent well done!! I was 30 and third time lucky - doesn’t matter!

allofthelove · 05/06/2024 06:36

I passed when I was 39 ... I told everyone . I don't care want people think .

I didn't really need to learn to drive as I live to public transport and walked everywhere, only passed my test so I could take my kids to places that were a pain to get to .

AuntieMarys · 05/06/2024 07:13

I was 34 when I passed over 30 years ago! Shout it from the rooftops! It's a massive achievement and will enhance your life

NoraLuka · 05/06/2024 07:18

Congratulations! Nothing to be embarrassed about. My brother passed in his late 20s, he hadn’t even told anyone he was trying to learn to drive (again) and then out of the blue just announced he’d passed his test and everyone was pleased for him.

ACynicalDad · 05/06/2024 07:22

Less and less teenagers and young adults are bothering, fishy getting round to it in your thirties is going to get more and more common. Well done.

TheBloatedMiddle · 05/06/2024 07:25

yay!! That is great news!

One of my friends passed last year at the age of 63. Her husband was a controlling sort and never let her learn (said she was too ditzy to drive and he would drive her to places if he approved of where she wanted to go). When he passed away she booked in for her first ever lesson within the week.

user1471538283 · 05/06/2024 07:25

Congratulations! This isn't old! I was 35 passing mine after decades of trying!

It isn't when you pass, it's that you've passed! It shows tenacity! I'm proud of you! Tell people!

Mabelface · 05/06/2024 07:32

I'm 54 and still don't drive, nor do I care! Congratulations! It's something to be proud of, not embarrassed about.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 05/06/2024 07:34

Congratulations! 🎊

Catsmere · 05/06/2024 08:05

That's the other thing - I also happily tell people I only learned to drive a few years ago, and there hasn't been one negative reaction. It has always been "Good on you! That's major!" Now maybe that's more of a thing because I'm 60 and not 30, and have a fair bit of don't-give-a-fuck now, but I suspect if you tell people you'll get congratulations. And if they make negative comments, well, you know they're arseholes whose opinions aren't worth a bucket of piss.

Mumoftwo1316 · 05/06/2024 08:10

Congrats op! My mum never learned to drive until I was in my teens... then she got lessons and got her licence just a few years before I learned.

She also never went to uni as a young person but then took a course and got a degree just a couple of years before I graduated from mine!

So she was in her 40s/50s for both!

I'll always be better at parking though :)

mumda · 05/06/2024 08:34

Congratulations!

LightSpeeds · 05/06/2024 08:41

Wow - congratulations. I passed mine when I was 30!

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 05/06/2024 08:43

Congratulations! I passed my car test when I was 49, so you're beating me at adulting..! 😁

squashyhat · 05/06/2024 08:49

Congratulations! I failed my maths O'level 3 times and gave up. I was always quite open about it. Then I took GCSE aged 61 and got a good pass. Did I shout it from the rooftops (and Facebook)? Hell yeah Grin

cointos · 05/06/2024 08:57

Congratulations!

I learned to drive when I was in my 20s but I didn't start swimming lessons until I was 33. I was embarrassed at first but when I started telling people they were all so positive about it (after the initial "what, you can't swim??").

DappledThings · 05/06/2024 09:09

Don't be daft, I passed at 35. Nothing embarrassing about it.
