Your next family holidays!

I am all about holidays. Just love them. For years we could not have any for various family reasons. So I shoved money into a dedicated holiday account (for 8 years!!!!) in the hope that we could one day really get back to holidays. This year we are able to go away and we have planned;

Crete - 7 nights in July

Butlins - 4 nights in August

Munich - 6 nights in October

Next year the plan is to go wild and spend 5 weeks in Australia. 3 weeks will be a road trip through Western Australia and 2 weeks will be to see family in Sydney. It;s not booked yet but that is the current plan.

I'd love to hear what others are planning!!

They sound like lovely holidays. We booked Crete but lockdown scuppered our plans. Is it beautiful?

I’m also obsessed with holidays and love hearing about other people’s. I have some friends who are lucky enough to have been to really amazing places, often for extended stays. I never feel envious, just love hearing about it. We are lucky to have family far and wide, which helps.

This year we have:

France skiing and family visit
Dublin and Cork family visit (so rainy!)
Paris (just DD and I)
Norfolk family visit
British Columbia (Rockies, Vancouver and Seattle)
Berlin (just DS and I)
Belgrade family visit

Next year we are planning to visit Botswana and South Africa in August, and to spend Christmas in Western Australia, with my best friend, via a week in Malaysia. Better start saving the pennies!

Oooh! loads of lovely ideas! Western Australia at Christmas sounds amazing! I wanted to do that but DH does not cope with heat, so we intend to go in the Australian winter. It;s still averaged out at 19-ish degrees though which should be nice.

I have been watching a load of Crete-based youtube videos so we have an idea of places we wish to visit (Chania old town) and an idea about local food to try (all of it).

I went to Belgrade for work about 20 odd years ago and really loved it. The standout memory for me though (usually food-related) was the burek stuffed with mushrooms and onions. Glorious.

Back home to Japan for a few weeks in the summer hols, can't wait!

Ahhh holiday planning is my favourite! I also have a separate account for holidays and am constantly paying one off. Such important memories. We have planned -

Turkey - 5 nights next week with my MIL

Mauritius- 10 nights next February flying business class for my 40th, just DH and I (the most extravagant thing I have ever done)

Egypt - 10 nights including a trip to see the Sphinx next July to celebrate my twins finishing their GCSEs. A real bucket list holiday.

No further plans, and I don't think we'll be able to afford more than a few days in Spain over the next few years!

Bill Bailey was in a "celeb goes travelling" series in Western Australia recently (Channel 4). You'll get some great ideas from there. It does get hot in Perth (DH had an aunt there who we visited a couple of times who lived to tell us how stupidly hot it had been). September/October is lovely.

We are having a very bitty year for hols because of work, school trips and Uni Open Days. We've done:

Carbis Bay Cornwall (off season bargain break)
Aberdeenshire/Edinburgh (Easter)
London (multiple visits while DD away with school at weekends)
Noss Mayo weekend (Devon)
Exeter overnight (Devon)

Planned:
Big house rental for an extended family reunion/holiday Norfolk (I think I might be in charge of the catering)
Southampton (Hants)
Durham (via a stay in London with DD)

I might take DD away for a minibreak before the A level slog begins in September, but I am hoping she gets a summer job to earn some £.

That sounds really lovely

We have done Butlins already this year

Next holiday is Haven then we're going to Croatia and then we're heading south to visit family but we're staying in an Airbnb

RedRobyn2021 · 04/06/2024 16:40

Also Crete is really lovely

Just a staycation, staying at home but plan to do some of the touristy things locally and beach days for a week.

PassingStranger · 04/06/2024 17:28

Been to Canaries thus year. Safe bet with the weather.
Tend not to go abroad in the Summer as its too hot and busy. Will go somewhere later in on the Autumn.
Occasionally have a few weekends away in England too.
My friend has gone to Greece today. She isn't able to take many breaks due to working for herself, this is her first proper holiday in a while.
I hope she's enjoying it and look forward to seeing what she thinks of it and the whole travel experience.

We've been to NYC and go to Mexico later this year.

Dontmesswithmyhead · 18/08/2024 12:51

We are travel obsessed and spend far too much -
I do wonder if I’d be better saving for the kids. I keep
telling them to make the most of it!

We're doing Portugal next year in the May half term - a place called Sisembra with beaches and loads of history.

I really want to do Crete but the flights were about three times the price in comparison with Portugal which makes it unaffordable sadly.

We'll also do a trip to London for DDs 6th birthday.

Itsmeamandaberry · 18/08/2024 13:10

So far we have

Prague for 3 nights just DH and me
York for 2 nights just me
Vegas for 7 nights for a friends wedding

All before May 🙈
