Normalcy

I know I probably need to get a life but I have noticed an increase in use of the word "Normalcy" here in the UK. Where did this word come from? Is this correct grammar as I always thought the correct word was normality. For some reason I always feel irritated when I hear normalcy instead of normality. It's just as bad as Aks instead of Ask! I can't stand that either, especially when used by the news reader on ITN news! What is going on with the decline in grammar.
I do understand I'm just getting old and becoming a moaner and there are probably loads of bad grammar errors in my post. Just tell me to stop moaning! 🤣

Normalcy is acceptable to
use in the US. I haven’t heard it used here.
