Abandoned baby - one of 3 siblings abandoned

Just read that the little girl abandoned in London earlier this year is the full sibling to two other babies abandoned in the same area over a 4 year period - article on the BBC website.
I just can't imagine what the parents must be going through - it's thankfully a very rare event, but to leave 3 children?
The older 2 have already been adopted but social services have said that the children will have contact with each other as they grow up.

Just a really upsetting story 😞

I remember seeing something like that on that Davina McColl program. It's horrific isn't it?

heldinadream · 04/06/2024 07:19

I worry for the mother who - presumably- has given birth three times (that we now know of) with no medical attention or care. And has abandoned three newborns.

She could be in any kind of a state.

Long lost families! I knew I would remember the name as soon as I posted.

My prayer is that whatever is going on here, the mother has both the capacity for and is in a position that she is making informed consensual decisions, from conception, to birth, to abandonment.

Yes, it sounds like the mother will be having all sorts of difficulties in her life, but I think it will be very unlikely that she is making 'informed consensual decisions, from conception, to birth, to abandonment' and that it is almost certain that she is in an abusive relationship and/or that she lacks capacity due to mental illness.

ana7887 · 04/06/2024 09:20

Doesn't look like the mother is in the position to make informed decisions, does it? Birth control is free and available, if all children are from same father and all three are abandoned I don't see why same partner would oppose to contraception?
The whole story is giving me chills...I fear that the woman is held captive... and hope police is having a proper look into this. Surely they can see who abandoned the baby with all the cctvs...

I agree, which is very concerning, but other scenarios are there's a possibility she could lack capacity through developmental delay rather than mental illness, and the possibility she isn't in a 'relationship' at all.
I don't mean to be over dramatic with the later, but it is actually very easy to be a hidden person in London, through choice or otherwise.

Bjorkdidit · 04/06/2024 09:32

Well quite, it could be a Josef Fritzel type scenario or something else equally horrific.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 04/06/2024 09:46

Could also be no recourse to public funds/fear of deportation.

Doesn't change the fact that if they find her, they'll prosecute her. The 'woman has been arrested on suspicion of' stories never feature as prominently as the 'come forward so we can help you' ones.

Craftysue · 04/06/2024 10:02

It's the fact that the children all have the same mother and father - I'm really concerned about the mother and her situation.

They can probably tell by the dna whether shes from a county that girls get trafficked from .

I didn’t know anything about this (I’m not in the UK), it the first thing that came to my mind was that there could be a poor woman somewhere, being kept somewhere against her will, being used as a sex slave and her babies being taken away by whoever is holding her and abandoned. Whatever the situation it’s horrific :-(

This was my first thought!
I have a horrible feeling this woman is not I'm a position to have any power.
Have the put the babies DNA into one of those sites?

I was thinking a DNA test should help.
40 years ago a new born baby's body was found on a beach in Kerry, Ireland. He had been stabbed multiple times. Sad
There was a big scandal about it as a woman was named as the killer but she was innocent.
Fast forward 38 years and DNA has led to the mother and father of the baby being found.
They still live in the local area.
Their son gave his DNA voluntarily - local people had been asked to do so in a push to solve the mystery.
The couple are still together, married and have other children.
No charges have been made as yet.
They may not have murdered the baby but they must have known about a baby being murdered around the time the woman gave birth and her baby was gone.
There was publicity about the case throughout the years.
SadSadSad
I hope the mother in the UK case gets the help she needs, soon.

I thought the same, she could still be very young and have been abused. Poor girl and poor little ones. It's heartbreaking.

deeahgwitch · 13/08/2024 17:22

I wonder has there been any progress in the case ?
I do hope the mother gets help.
