So I’ve just discovered how to find all the Mumsnet secret emojis.

Perhaps everyone already knew this, but I’ve just found this out by accident.

What you do is type a word and the put a square bracket without a space. Then just type a letter and the emojis come up. See the picture.*

*may only work on iPads.

Oooh this explains why it’s stopped working for me. Do I have to use an actual strikethrough button now? How irritating modern.

Posters often found themselves expressing regret at emoji attempt fails, I recall. A bit like this thread!

I agree that and are far more expressive than the panoply of newfangled faces we are 'blessed' with now. I have spent more time than it has ever warranted trying to find just the right modern emoticon to express my feelings.

The only better new one is vomit because in the olden days everyone had to post but tell us it wasn't envy.

Are you on a iPad/iphone with Smart Punctuation turned on in settings? That converts -- to a single long dash which means it doesn't work.
