Fucking scented loo roll

I'm a bloody idiot. It's taken me MONTHS to clock on to the fact that using coconut scented loo roll has been making me really sore/thrush. I'd never been one for getting thrush until we started buying it. Obviously I've rushed out and got the most neutral stuff I can find - has anyone else had this? I can't believe it's taken me this long to figure it out 🙄

I think scented toilet paper should be banned. Also pads.

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 03/06/2024 20:52

I convinced myself I had some sort of infection due to an odd smell when wiping. Went to the doctors etc. Turns out the smell was just the coconut scented toilet paper. I was so embarrassed.

flatpack1 · 03/06/2024 20:55

Its gross. Only bought it once by mistake. Never again

Thank god for mumsnet. I was googling thrush and why i was getting it and happened to come across an old post about scented loo roll. It just didn't occur to me until I saw that and everything just clicked. I agree with the stuff being banned-why on earth do we need scented sanitary towels?!!!!

@ToxicChristmas We dont. Its basically brainwashing, for the benefit of the people who make it and sell it. The same goes for a lot of cosmetic stuff.

ViaRia01 · 04/06/2024 19:27

Fully agree… I hate the scented toilet paper but accidentally bought 16 rolls of it yesterday in my big shop. I’m so annoyed but is it inappropriate to try to exchange it for non scented equivalent at the supermarket?!

BeCleverSquid · 04/06/2024 19:33

@ToxicChristmas it's awful, I avoid the scented ones, but only noticed the coconut oil ones at the weekend when nearly picked them up by mistake

AlphabetBird · 04/06/2024 19:35

Same here, they should ban it. I can’t even use it once without reacting.

Notateacheranymore · 04/06/2024 19:36

Fucking hell! 🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔

Bought Canestan at the weekend for the first time in several years. But been using Lidl softest for several years, went scented about 2-3 years ago. Seems like my bits have had enough!!!!

MorvernBlack · 04/06/2024 19:41

We had our usual substituted with scented. DD and I both end up with thrush. Bloody Canestan isn't cheap either. 🙄 We have kept it for DH to use as he's fine with it and didn't want to waste it, then DD accidently used it again so it was a false ecomony.
Revolting stuff ought to be banned, it had really subtle labelling too, hadn't realised it was scented just thought it was softer like the Aloe Vera ones.

ToxicChristmas · 04/06/2024 20:04

Sitting here suffering the discomfort of thrush and feeling really pissed off that I paid money for this fucking shitty loo roll!! I'll make sure that I'm extremely picky in the future with what I buy -lesson learned. I've never used scented sanitary towels or tampons; I dread to think what they would do.

Sorry, off topic, but I love that you call it "shitty toilet roll" . 😆

justquestions · 04/06/2024 20:10

Oh my gosh. I've been using this for a couple of years and I've mostly been ok. I was a bit sore a couple of months ago and couldn't work out why. As I don't get the coconut one all the time I didn't make any connection. I really like the smell but not enough to keep buying it!

DoLovePersimmon · 04/06/2024 20:14

If I buy scented by mistake I take all the rolls out of a plastic and put them on a shelf. After some time the smell gets less and less noticeable. Maybe it helps, maybe not. Who knows! But we don’t have any problems.

buffyslayer · 04/06/2024 20:14

My manager once ordered scented loo roll
He came in the next day and said "I was telling my wife and she said absolutely no, so yeah, sorry. No more scented"
Not quite sure what she said but apparently it was quite graphic Grin

I have this with aloe Vera scented rolls, I'm currently wondering if bio washing powder has caused similar problem.

The only washing detergent I am alright with is Fairy non bio, and so is DH who has exceedingly sensitive skin and is allergic to everything. Including hydrocortisone cream that is prescribed for allergic reactions on the skin.

Not used a Bio for over 20 years. But we don’t have kids and both do office jobs now, so the task of cleaning our clothes is pretty light.

MonkeyPuddle · 04/06/2024 23:21

I bought 24 rolls of scented loo roll by accident. Used one out of it but was making me sore. We’re moving house soon so all the breakable will be getting wrapped in floral scented loo roll.

SheepAndSword · 04/06/2024 23:25

Another one here who bought it by mistake. There was a lot of gritted teeth at the vile, synthetic smell until it was used up.

pizzaHeart · 04/06/2024 23:29

agree it should be forbidden and scented pads as well.
When we’ve got scented toilet paper first time we had to threw it away after few days not because of thrush risk but because the bathroom became so smelly, it was awful.

endofthelinefinally · 04/06/2024 23:30

You get some really weird stuff abroad, especially in USA. Who on earth thinks menthol scented liners are a good idea? I read labels very carefully these days.
