Your favourite Greek Island

HI. I am (possibly) going away in September with friends. No kids so don't need anywhere particularly kiddie friendly. What i would particularly want to know is what islands have good public transport. I well remember in Kephalonia - needing to get a bus at 5am to go to the capital! I think there was only 1 a day.!

TIA

I’ve never been but I yearn to go to Santorini.

Corfu. Excellent bus servicing the whole of the island.
Check out Agios Gordios for a real traditional Greek village with excellent restaurants.

@FranticFrankie

Yes I saw some buses later but it took hours to get to the capital, it must have gone all around the island. We met a schoolgirl who gets the bus and it was only one a day. My friend is very good at research (not going with her though!) and would have know if another bus would have been better. We had to shine torches on our faces at 5.30 in the morning as it was pitch black out. Lovely stars though!

Thanks all for your info!

I was just about to say Corfu, but I have no idea what the public transport is like

The old town of Chania in Crete is lovely and well served with buses. Even when we have a hire car we still hop on the bus to Chania for the evening and dinner at a restaurant (so DH can have a beer). We've stayed in Doratsos, lots of great beaches and not too far from Chania on the bus.

Corfu is also lovely, we always stay in the north and north east rather than the south which seems to attract youths for some reason. There are reasonable buses but we do mostly get around by hire car there so not so sure day-to-day.

@devildeepbluesea We got married in Santorini many years ago. It has become very over-touristed with locals being unable to buy or rent in the towns where they work. I would expect there to be some resentment and unrest by now - we went there on the ferry from Crete on a day trip a few years ago and it wasn't how we remembered it. Chock full of tourists from the cruise ships periodically as well which doesn't help. It's a lovely island but there are other Greek islands which are more appealing and don't feel overrun.

We were in Lourdas, Deathray so it’s not far from the capital. or we were lucky!!
Steep walk up to the village and from the beach though 🤪
Wherever you go it’ll be gorgeous- enjoy!!

Corfu.
If you stay not top far from the Airport like Dassia or Ipsos or Barbati.. the bus goes through all these places and very very often to and from Corfu capital.
I've been to many Greek islands and Corfu since 1976 and still my favourite.
