I find I know and love many classical pieces of music but I never remember most of the names when I want to listen to it!

What would go on your playlist?

I'll start:
Edward Elgar - Nimrod

I know it's a cliche but Yo Yo Ma playing Bach's Cello Suite 1 will always get me!

Alexander Borodin In the Steppes of Central Asia

Bedrich Smetana Ma vlast, vltava (the 2nd movement). I love the whole piece but the first 3 especially

Dvorkak New world symphony, the Scherzo (but again the whole lot)

Faure 'Pavane'

Saint-Saens 'Danse Macabre

Some of my favourites on there.

Sati piano pieces, Gymnopedie and Gnossiene
Canteloube - Songs of the Auvergne
Dvorak string quartet no 12, especially the second movement.

Beethoven’s “Emperor” piano concerto.

To celebrate the 200th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, Glenn Gould performed "The Bicentennial Concert“, produced by Mario Prizek and originally broadcast ...

Second the Vaughn Williams recommendations, but would go with Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis!

Also Stravinsky's Firebird, and Jupiter from the Planets always makes me very happy.

I listen to my classical playlist every night to drift off.

My favourite is Clair de lune - Debussy
Sheep may safely graze - Bach

They often play a Catalan guitar folk song on Classic FM which I adore and must add to my playlist

and absolutely anything by John Barry but they do make me well-up for some reason.

OhLaurie · 03/06/2024 14:36

Oh and Home away from Home by James Galway
