I'm late 40s, a fair bit fat, currently unattached and feeling quite out of love with myself. However this week I have lost 5lbs of weight, had my hair done and bought a new dress just to give me a shot of confidence.

They're all smile changes but when my dad saw me he said, 'you look so glamorous. I can't believe you've stopped off.

I've always been really self conscious of my freckles, they don't multiply as much as they darken and merge on my face so my skin is really marked.
I was in Aldi and the checkout lady commented that I had lovely freckles!
I like to think she was a mumsnetter because it was shortly after I mentioned on a thread about my freckles being a point of contention for me.

Howbizarre22 · 02/06/2024 20:48

iv been told numerous times I have a kind warm face and eyes. Lovely compliment.

Kendodd · 02/06/2024 21:02

I remember someone described me once as 'the least materialistic person they'd ever met'. I though that was a compliment Smile

BirthdayRainbow · 02/06/2024 21:04

Thanks for putting up with him so we could have a a good childhood. My son.

Im divorcing him now.

You're the strongest woman I know. A cherished school friend.

Dd's have started part time jobs at 17 and 18. Colleague of younger dd told her she could tell they had been raised properly as they are both hard workers and lovely girls!!

familyissues12345 · 02/06/2024 21:20

I've recently changed roles and I've had a lot of compliments about how well I suit it , which I've really been chuffed about - it's a listening/support service role. I do pride myself on being supportive, but didn't realise other people see it too Blush

Currently nearly finished my nurse training and on my second last placement. One of the other nurses told me I have a lovely way with people and will make a difference to peoples lives. I’ve been in various care roles since I was 18, it’s nice to be told that when it can be a thankless job to know I come across the right way

LakeTiticaca · 02/06/2024 21:24

Someone once told me I was calm and dignified.
I think maybe they got the wrong person 😁😆

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 02/06/2024 21:30

One of my colleagues said as soon as she walked in the door for her interview, she knew she wanted the job because l made her feel so welcome.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 02/06/2024 21:31

'You're one of the most interesting people I've ever met'
And
'You're an incredible mother'

MoonKiss · 02/06/2024 21:31

“You always have such nice tea towels”

ElephantsDontReadFantasy · 02/06/2024 21:32

“You’re the most competent person I know”

MoonKiss · 02/06/2024 21:34

Aside from that I recently overheard my best friend tell my kids that I was like wonder woman when they were little and made it all look so easy. Makes me feel a bit sad now I’m battling teenagerness and all the angst that can bring, but at least I started off ok.

BCBird · 02/06/2024 21:36

I was told I smile with my eyes. I.liked that

TheScenicWay · 02/06/2024 21:37

"You looked so cool and I thought 'I want to be her friend'"

"I can't believe you're a real person" from a besotted dh in those heady days of dating haha.

ThatshallotBaby · 02/06/2024 21:38

@windowframesoutside
Well done you! Onwards and upwards as they say. I think the nicest thing anyone has said is that I’m beautiful inside and out. I think she’s a bit biased though Grin

BobbinThreadbare123 · 02/06/2024 21:38

"you're a bad-ass and you take no shit"

recklessgran · 02/06/2024 21:45

" I've never in my life met such charming children who so obviously adore their mother like yours do." Said by a friend of my mother's after we invited him to spend Christmas with our family as he otherwise would have been spending it alone.
I've never forgotten that comment as it meant the world to me not least because I had had an abusive childhood and wasn't confident that I was a good enough mummy to my 5DD's.

BurbageBrook · 02/06/2024 21:47

Someone at work said I was really efficient and concise in meetings. I always feel like I blather on like a fool so it was appreciated 🤣

A teacher when I was at school said I had amazing hair and it made me feel all warm inside for days!

I've had a fair few compliments probably better than those but it's random how some stay with you more than others.

recklessgran · 02/06/2024 21:49

Oh the other lovely compliment was somebody who I'd helped with something saying "Reckless, thank you - you are one of those rare people who sees with the eyes of your heart!"

GreenAnderson · 02/06/2024 21:55

"Oh, I thought you were sisters." (referring to me and my best friend).

Best Friend looks like a literal movie star. I'm OK looking, but there's no way I'm in her league. Only been mistaken for her sister once, but never forgotten it!
