Tesco have changed the non bio washing powder :(

This was the only one we aren't all allergic to and I am gutted. It smells horrible, they have added a load of perfume and bleaching agents and that means it is now off the shrunken list of safe products for us.

Life with random allergies is hard to explain to those who can wear any perfume or use any shampoo without giving it a thought but honestly I just wish companies would stop messing with formulas and breaking things that worked just fine.

All of the good shower gels, soaps, etc that we rely on and have used happily for decades have vanished in the last 5 years - it's madness.

Looks like Tesco has changed their bio for coloured wash, too. Have not been able to get it for weeks. The replacement is highly perfumed.

Bio coloured is like hens' teeth across all shops at the moment. It's odd.

Could you contact Surcare - I have used the washing machine detergent for years (both Powder and liquid) as I wanted non-perfumed, etc.

Alternatively do you have a plastic free shop near you - I find the owners are passionate about quality products, and their ingredients, so might be able to help with your specific requirements.

Laundry sheets are easy to cut or rip up.

Have you tried soap nuts? Completely natural product.

When I lived in the UK I used Filetti, but I couldn't get it in Ireland hence trying other options.

Can't get it in uk now

Surcare also has bleaching agents but the website doesn't say what % so not sure about that.

Worth contacting Surcare and asking them.
There's lots I can't use but I'm ok with Surcare

Sorry to derail but I've also noticed that Persil non bio liquid has changed for the worse, gave my son a rash and made me itch for the first time when it's all I've used for over 10 years now.

Interesting, I wonder why that is.

I've just had to buy a box of Tesco Tropical Sunshine Bio Detergent Powder 40 Wash 2kg as they've not had my usual Tesco bio available for weeks.

It smells so strongly in the unopened box that I've had to double bag it in polythene bags. Not clear whether my usual has been discontinued or has just been unavailable for weeks but it's not been listed online for C&C for several weeks, now.

I was also coming on to suggest M&S fragrance free! You only need half the recommended dose too!
For shampoo and conditioner, simple fragrance free is our favourite.
For a shower gel alternative, we use simple bar soap. Super cheap and works a charm. No fragrance at all.

We normally get Costco own brand non bio but they didn't have it last time we went so we bought Persil non bio and it fucking stinks. It's so bad I thought DP had accidentally put it in the fabric conditioner slot of the washing machine the first time he used it because the washing was on the airer and I could smell it all over the house.

And because it's Costco, it's a massive bottle that we're still trying to get through. Won't be buying that again. Maybe Persil also make the Tesco one?

justasking111 · 02/06/2024 21:55

I found the Lidl one Formil one brilliant, zero scent. Also the co-op non bio.

Fairy changed their formulation which is how I discovered the co-op one.

I agree with the M&S products I use the lavender spray because we have dogs. No asthma reaction at all. However the carpet/furniture stain remover does set me off.

justasking111 · 02/06/2024 21:56

I also switched to goats milk soap and deodorant, again a good move.

RobinEllacotStrike · 02/06/2024 22:29

How annoying with a fav product gets changed.

Morrison's Savers is the least scented powder I could find. No allergies, I just really hate the smell of clothes wash.

FussyPud · 02/06/2024 22:43

I’ve found that it’s bloody hard to find low scent products at all, which is a bigger when some smells are migraine triggers. I’m going to have a go with the m&s one suggested up thread.

StopTheGreyness · 21/06/2024 15:19

To update this for anyone who may be interested. I've been in touch with Tesco and they've said that the Tesco biological colour powder hasn't been discontinued but they are having trouble with supply issues so it is hard to find at the moment. It is coming back into stock though. Not sure about the non-biological option as I don't use that.

LordPercyPercy · 21/06/2024 15:48

Ecover does a plain washing powder if you haven't tried that one yet?

OliveNina · 17/07/2024 21:11

Surcare unperfumed products now are full of irritants and smell dreadful even after extra rinse causing itching. Just wish I could identify the particular chemical smell which seems to be used in most cleaning and laundry products nowadays. Does anyone else agree

BocaChica · 17/07/2024 21:31

@OP : FWIW I've taken to putting on a rinse & spin cycle when the wash is finished.....think it helps a bit
