Your best holiday with kids

Where was the best holiday you had with kids?

Hoping to save up for a bigger holiday next year. We are considering places like Singapore so happy to go long haul (although not Australia/NZ as it would be too far). We would love to go to Japan but want the kids to be a little bit older for that one. The kids would be 8 and 5 by the time we plan to go.

Also happy for the holiday to be closer to home it doesn't have to be long haul. Would really appreciate recommendations TIA!

Best.holiday probably Borneo but better for 8 year old. 5 is still quite young. Florida is a safe bet.

We did a road trip in California with DC of those ages. We booked a few nights/ attractions in advance and had a rough itinery building it around activities for adults and DC.We stayed in basic accommodation and enjoyed cities, beaches, gold rush town, Yosemite, theme parks etc. We had many memorable days .It isn't a completely relaxing holiday and there are squabbles in the back of the car etc but you really get a lot seen and done and it can be on your time scale. Some years later we had a road trip from DC around Virginia/ N Carolina and back up the Chesapeake. I could strongly recommend something similar for any family, there was loads to see and do and the flight was , obviously much shorter.

Costa Rica with our 3 year old this year. Direct 11 hour flight from London, hired a car and travelled around for 3 weeks. Loads for kids to do and very safe. Amazing wildlife, hanging bridges and beautiful beaches.

My dc don’t really remember any holidays from when they were under 5. They have just stayed at the Legoland hotel & that’s the best ever apparently.

Best holiday was a short flight to a big hotel that had loads of entertainment and activities for children, great food, and a water park attached. Lots of other children to play with. Nearby was a massive beach and the warm waters of the Med. We went on a boat trip where they could jump off the boat into the sea. Not my best holiday but definitely theirs.

If you ask my 5 year old…the Isle of Wight!

Poachedeggavocado · 01/06/2024 08:11

Best ever was when we gave in and went to a little all inclusive family resort in menorca when my dc were 6 and 2. All the cooking, cleaning and thinking taken away from me and plenty of entertainment for the kids. So relaxing. Alas they're too old for it now.

Florida has been their favourite so far. Waiting until they're (low) teens to do California.

We did a tour of Wales in 2022. It's was camping and we went to 8 different campsites in total over 4 weeks and even went up Snowdon. Bounced in the caves at zip world, visited castles, did a seal spotting boat trip and played board games in the evenings! They still talk about that holiday, it really was the best. I should add we've had many overseas trips including Dubai, a luxury villa in Portugal and Mexico to name a few.. wales can't be beaten!

Primary age, billund. Not too much travel, tons to do, no pressure.

Rocknrollstar · 01/06/2024 09:19

Grown up DC still talk about the holidays when we rented a cottage in Bridport and spent the days on the beach at Lyme Regis. They even went back by themselves when they finished uni. Family holidays and memories don’t depend on fabulous locations and spending a lot of money. We took them to lots of places in the UK but they still talk about train trips for the day to see their great grandmother. Sometimes I tell them (jokingly) that I don’t know why we took them for days out as they don’t remember any of them.

Thailand is amazing with kids. DS is 6 and has been twice. He’s a good flyer and sleeps a lot on planes which helps though.

Can second this as being amazing so much to do in cancun but also far enough away not to be like Benidorm. What about Caribbean cruise if it's winter or Europe/Asia in the summer. Can do a mix of site seeing and chilled days on board, recommend royal Caribbean.

cj217 · 01/06/2024 13:39

Mine was taking my toddler to Asia for a month earlier this year. Thailand was our favourite country, we'll be going back Jan 2025. We're also doing Florida next year too so I think that could possibly top it for my little one

I'll start by saying it was definitely not my kind of holiday and I wouldn't go back. But children love it. It was Club Mac in Alcudia, Majorca. It was quite a few years ago I was there.

strangeandfamiliar · 06/10/2024 18:10

Up until the teenage years it was villa/gite holidays in France/Greece/Croatia/Italy, often with our friends with similar aged children. They ran wild and had a great time, especially when there was a pool or beach close by. For early teens the most successful holidays were probably US or Canadian road trips. We did do a couple of longer haul trips (China/SE Asia) but not until they were quite a bit older.

IDontDrinkTea · 06/10/2024 18:26

Disneyland. Rides, parades, characters, fireworks - the kids love it

Gingerisgoodforyou · 06/10/2024 19:07

Staying on a farm in Cornwall has been their favourite - farm animals, Freedom to roam more than at home, other kids around to play with and beach nearby. We all love it as so relaxing.

They've also loved French camp site/ gite holidays, Greek villa, lapland. But Cornwall still voted as favourite!

mylittledoggie · 06/10/2024 19:34

French Alps, loads of fun stuff to do with kids.
