Any in-house recruiters here?

Hi,

Does anyone here work as an in-house recruiter? I could really do with some advice as to my position in respect of a role I applied for recently.

I have been searching for a new job for a couple of months now but sadly within the industry and level I am at, there are not many opportunities out there. I have registered with a few recruitment consultants and about a month ago, one contacted me and explained that there was a potential vacancy that may be of interest and that as soon as it went live and he knew more, he would be in contact with me.

Fast forward to now, I noticed the job advertised on LinkedIn and thought it odd that the consultant had not contacted me about it and therefore assumed that the company were hiring directly.

I spent day and night completing my application as the closing date was imminent and submitted it today.

I have now received a call from the consultant advising me that he had apparently sent my CV to the company a month ago, following our conversation, before the job had gone live, and that the in- house recruiter of this company, has alerted him to the fact that I had now applied directly. I explained as I had not heard from him I had to apply directly.

He didn’t seem concerned and simply stated that the in-house recruiter was happy for him to represent me in respect of this job if they are not able to secure a candidate directly and told me not to worry!

Now, I am worried, and I am trying to understand what my position is in respect of the direct application I made. Obviously I do not know what was said in the conversation between the consultant and the in-house recruiter but I have a sinking feeling that I may now be left at a major disadvantage by the consultant.

If my application was strong enough to proceed to interview with my direct application, my chances now seem to have been scuppered by the consultant sending in my CV first as companies will no doubt try to recruit directly for financial reasons.

However, is there anything to be said about the fact that he sent my CV before the job went live and did so without actually confirming this to me hence I went through the trouble of applying directly?

What, if anything, should I do? Should I leave it and hope that the company do not fill the position directly? The consultant seemed to think that it was unlikely they would and that I should be in with a chance of interview through him. However, I am not naive and know this could all be just to keep me
onside to ensure that I go through him but I really would like to know where I stand in all this?
