Having a nightmare with EON - any advice welcome

This may be long sorry!

They say I owe a £1000 and it’s now gone to solicitors - but I paid it off in Dec 21

The only evidence I’ve got is on my bank statement.

So…

Account was in husbands name and when we separated he didn’t pay the bill.

I stayed living in the property so agreed to pay the debit as I’d used the energy.

I’ve gone through old emails and found a transcript of me chatting to someone online at Eon chat asking to change the account to my name. That was in the March 21. The chat ended so I assume I ended as was waiting too long / something came up.

I must have gotten through at some point as remember logging on line and paying it. I must have had the account changed and can vaguely remember speaking to a woman about it. ( the change of name on account)

Ive no emails about this.

Next email I have is from EON NEXT in the January 2022. I still was paying them energy and was up to date.

Started getting letters off the debt collector around January 2023. Spoke to them and said I’d already paid it. Spoke to EON they said I’d been moved over to EON NEXT and there was no debt at all and promises to contact debt collectors.

Rinse and repeat every six months or so

Ive recently left EON NEXT and they actually owed me money which they paid me back.

Received a solicitors letter this afternoon saying I was going to get a CCJ if I didn’t pay the out standing £1000 😩

Rang them up, spoke to a very sceptical guy ( who pissed me off and kept talking over me) who said I still needed to fill out the form to deny the debt and that EON NEXT would say there is no evidence of the debt or it being paid off because it had been sold to the debt collector 😭 BUT I did get a reference for the account ( although not sure if it was for EON or debt collector) SURELY they would keep records??

EON are not open now till Monday 🙈

But honest to god I dont think I can bare another nightmare on the phone talking to customer services based around the world as had very similar with Voda phone recently. I spent two hours on the phone being told BS then cut off. This was after months of phone calls to get it sorted. I ended up walking in to a Voda phone shop and asking the manager to ring head office escalate it - which he did and it was all sorted.

Any advice?

I've found Eon Next really helpful on the phone, having had a couple of complicated issues (one took the person I spoke to about 12 hours of constant work to fix). Can you get them to do you a letter that says that you don't owe them any money.

Do a subject access request (SAR) on yourself to EON, and id also speak to the energy ombudsman and ask for their help https://www.energyombudsman.org/
Unfortunately you do just have to keep at these things. You wont get a CCJ if you turn up in court with all your evidence and dispute it, so I would have put him in his place straight away.

Just an update - spoke to Eon and they are escalating it. There is also a random bill for £233 that’s being taken on the 10th of this month even though I finished with them on the 4th of April - and they owed me - which they paid out so they are looking in to it.

Vodaphone. Rang them after having an awful experience a month or so ago to pay off what they said I actually owed (£400) not the £1200 they were trying to tell me I did. This was after it was eventually escalated to head office. Spoke to a lovely guy who dealt with it. Seems he didn’t deal with it all and the balance is still there. I also can’t pay it as the account has been deactivated.

what a fucking nightmare. How the hell do people that are ill or have mental health deal with this shit.

Happened to my friend and she had evidence she paid it. Went to the ombudsman and they found in her favour and made the energy company pay her compensation
